Question about RCA P52830BL 52" Rear Projection Television
My RCA 52" projection screen tv just quit working. When I turned it on last night, it made a loud "popping" noise, then the power went out in half of my house. I turned flipped the circuit breaker and turned on the tv. It now has the picture bowed on the top and bottom. The picture is also separated into the three primary colors. Is there a fixable solution, or is it time to give up on it? It is 12 years old.
I've got an RCA model P52830BL, CH#PTK195BB. Everytime I replace a new convergence card for this tv, it blows. Can you give me some advice as to what is causing this? I got another card, and turned on the set for about a second, and saw the screen was still messed up, and I quickly turned it off, to prevent this circuit board from frying, too. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem last year. I bought a DIG CONV IC chip for around $20.00 and it has worked great since.

There is a convergence printed circuit board that likely has a few bad components. If you decide to get it repaired, the technican will probably check for fluid leaks from the picture tubes coolant area which has given problems on this model also. If the picture quality leaves a bit to be desired, it may be a wise move to upgrade to HDTV. A Sony KDS-55A20 model has a great picture and should be less than $2300. I just saw one at a local Sams Club store.

I haven't had time to get to a repair person yet, but I will update as soon as I am able. Thank you so much for your response!
Thank you for your replies. I don't know if the solution would have worked. The parts were too expensive, so I chose to buy a new set instead. Once again, thanks for the reply!
