Question about Proscan PS27125 27" TV

1 Answer

Intermittent loss of picture

My Proscan TV works fine right after I turn it on, but within about five minutes the picture disappears and is replaced by a horizontal white line acrosss the middle of the screen. The sound is unaffected. within a few minutes the picture may, (or may not!), reappear. This sequence of events is randomly repeated as long as the power is on. I love the set, but can't afford a repair shop's bill. I am good with tools and such, know a bit of electronics, and am perfectly willing to attempt any advanced repair procedure; it's either that or the TV goes unused and uselessly taking up valuable space in my garage. Thanks for any helpful advice.

You'll have to locate the vertical output IC which should be mounted onto a heatsink, then take out a good magnifier under the printed circuit board and examine the solder connections on the pins of that IC and resolder the ones that are cracked.

I replaced the mainboard on my proscan TV, but the picture still won't show, what's wrong?

Hello Anonymous,

By putting your number (plded4079-sm) on eBay... immediately produced no "USA" power boards...

Likewise an AMAZON search failed.

Which means most FIXYA volunteers are going to
have some difficulty ... The number of your PROSCAN are the only thing that DIFFERENTIATES your set from our similar USA (domestic) models...

We just call them "power boards"... and they are popular
because the new industry standard for capacitors is
"cheap & cheesy"...

The bright-side = there is a bounty of "SPARES" on eBay...
and their reliability (& reputation) is NOT much worse...

(I'm just saying) Shop around...!!

Cautionary statements:
You MUST VERIFY your own circuit pack numbers
(stare & compare)...

Get and use ESD (electro-static Discharge) wrist straps while handling EVERY CIRCUIT BOARD you care about.
(see below)

Take lots of pictures going in... Put EVERY wire
EXACTLY back from whence it came...
and... FORCE NOTHING.

PS50B450B1WXXU = UK
PN50C450B1DXZA = USA (wrong)

TV works fine for a while, then the picture disappears.

I would just replace the TV, the parts are not going to be made to repair this. The set is just to old.

Vertical line picture

problem is caused by the loss of horizontal deflection signal. It is quite surprising that the entire unit is still working, since usually, a loss of H-Out will disable the entire set. Problem can be as simple as loose solder connection to a more complicated defective horizontal circuit. I would suggest havint it checked by a professional TV tech.

Picture loss!

It sounds like cold solder joints on the vertical IC chip. Not a major deal. The entire board should be looked over for other joints becoming cold.

Sony KP-51HW40 51 in. Rear Projection turns blue

Hello......
First reduse the G2 voltage for the blue c.r.t,and watch if the unit works for longer period (offcource blue colour will be not present). After reducing G2 voltage to blue c.r.t still behaves the same than c.r.t is faulty and you have to replace.
Pls count the red led blinking when it goes off, incase it goes to std by mode.

Degrading picture with my Dwin projector

the colorwheel is going bad and needs replacing. the colorwheel needs to spin fast enough to sync up with the dmd chip. if it cannot, the pic goes bad then off. the flashing is the colorwheel trying to catch up.

Loose Picture (Goes completely Black)

Nothing special about that board as I cant seem to find that # but If my memory serves me correctly it sounds like a crt board and its a simple soldering job on the crt socket?? Altough Im not there to see the set still 550.00 seems like an awfull lot to repair a set even if they have to replace the entire chassis. I think you should cal rca and take it to an authorized RCA repair center and if the shop you took it to was an rca authorized center I would also report that to them(RCA). Good Luck
