Acer motherboard I forgot to mention that my acer extensa 5620 is a laptop and that when I turn it on ask for a HDD password and it has no operating system so my question is if I replace the motherboard will that solve the password so I can install the operating system?

Let me clarify, hard drives have the ability to be pasword protected, this password is on the control board for the drive itself, its not saved on any of the platters, just like the motherboard can have a password also for locking the system down to prevent intrusions and peopel fiddling with the BIOS settings. So if in fact the HDD is locked, i would try replacing the drive first because there really is no way to crack it. If the pasword itis asking for is the bios pasword that can sometimes be reset by calling acer tech support, It all depends on the type of password set for the drive, if it is a hard password set into the drive there is a strong possibility you wont even be able to format the drive as access to the platters will denied.
