My Samsung PN50A650 Plasma has a thin red and blue line running down the side of the screen and also shows a lot of red in the background when the picture is all black. Samsung tells me that the screen needs replace and its 1600.00 which is more than the TV costs. Any other suggestions that mey be able to correct this problem without the absorbant cost.

All I can say is when you watch T.V. the plasmas run off of plasma gas and when you leave something on for so long it burns in the screen. I have the same T.V. and when watching like the weather channel it leaves lines but they go away. If yours are permanent then you can't do anything, but it may help if you go on your remote and go to "menu" then look for "setup" and scroll down with the arrows on your remote. Look for "screen burn protection" and select "white screen". This will make your whole screen white and it may take out the lines. If you let it sit white it won't hurt it. All one color won't hurt, the only thing that hurts is like bright white lines in front of a dark background. Just give your T.V. a break from time to time ESPECIALLY ON VIDEO GAMES. T.V. shows that are HD usually have their channel icons that move or are very dim and they won't hurt. Just go to what I told you and let it sit about 20 minutes, if that doesn't help, then the T.V. you have i believe comes with a 2-year standard warranty and if it's under warranty take it back if you have the reciept. If no reciept then call 1-800-SAMSUNG.

lines on a plasma tv can be cause by a few different things. One of your buffers might be bad. The logic board might be bad. Or your tv screen coldu be bad. The only way to find out is by replacing the boards or the screen.
