Simply how to use the scanner which does not come with instructions. Many t hanks for your assistance

  • Click Settings > Scan Settings > Button Settings at the bottom of the left pane.

  • Click the Scan Picture Button tab. Under "Scan to" select the program you would like to edit the image with after the scan is finished.
  • Repeat step 2 for the Scan Button, the Scan Document Button and Scan Film Button. Select the program you would like to use to open each type of scan, or select "Save to File" and the desired file type. Select your preferences under the Document or Picture menus based on the type of image or document you will scan most often using this button. Ensure that the "Show Preview" check box is checked for each button type. Click "OK."
  • Place your document or picture on the glass. If scanning film, place the 35 mm negative or slide in the special adapter provided by HP. Select the Scan Picture, Document or Film button depending on what you are scanning. Select the Make Copies button to copy the document or picture directly. Click "Scan" and then "OK" to see the scan preview.
  • Crop your image by clicking the small black boxes at the edges of the selection area. Drag your mouse until the portion of the image you wish to scan is selected. Select the image correction settings in the menu on the right to fix any problems with the picture or document. You may also change the image resolution and resize the image in these menus. When you're finished, click the "Accept" button. If you'd like to scan another image, select "Yes" in the next dialogue box. If not, select "No."

One sided scanning is fine, but two sided scans have a 1/4 inch black line vertically down the left side. Cleaning does nothing.

When you say one sided scans are OK, are you using the ADF (auto document feeder) or the flatbed? Are you using the ADF for the two sided scan? What parts have you cleaned thus far? A little more info please?

    thanks

In copy mode I am getting a back strip along the left hand side of the copy. The strip also shows up in the preview. Strip used to be half inch thick and is now an inch thick.

Is any part of the image missing under this black strip, or is it just margin from the side of the document to the end of the glass?
If nothing's missing, then probably you set a larger original size in the settings somewhere.
Try a sheet of white paper the size of the glass, put on top of the (smaller) copied picture or document; when scanning it is not a big deal, you can always choose the area to be scanned, right?
If however part of the document is missing, this can mean that the photosensitive element is faulty and doesn't read a couple hundred pixels on that side and the device needs repair.

Black line is present when copying document; not

This sounds as if you have some ink/contamination on the small scaning glass that sits to either the left or right of the main glass on the copier.(Depending on the model/make)As your original is scanned over this thin piece of glass the scanning device will see any spots and this will result in a black line down the page. Please clean the glass with a soft rag.

Lexmarkx125 will scan larger pictures but smaller ones.

Here are some instructions from the Lexmark X63 which was similar to the X125.

The Lexmark X63 uses a sheet fed scanner, intended to scan 8 1/2 x11 inch paper.
    • To scan a document between 5 1/2 inches and 8 3/4 inches wide, center the document between the paper feed guides leading into the scanner and make sure the document is held straight,. Do not bend the document as it is fed into the scanner.
    • To scan photos or pictures that are 5 1/2 inches wide or smaller, you will need to use a flatbed scanner, or "mat" the image into a regular letter-size paper and scan the entire page. When the scan process is complete, crop out the picture using the AUTO CROP option in the Scan and Copy Control program or the photo-editing software.

This has something to do the brightness chosen. In the manual mode, if you choose a dark output, the output will have tis area also; if you choose, lighter output, it will omit. In the auto scan mode, the scanner decides what is the best output.

Scanning document leaves streak down right hand side

Even a single grain of dust or a single strand of hair on the scanning glass will cause the scan head to perceive ink/image where there is none. Deffinetly try cleaning the glass using a good window cleaner, and a cloth that is completely clean, or even a peice of newspaper. If the black line remains, I would suggest taking it into a service center to have the scan head itself cleaned.
