Question about Samsung HP-R5072 50 in. Plasma HDTV

Samsung 50" hdtv; picture going dark along a sharply demarcated band on screen

A dark area has appeared on the left edge of the screen about 3 weeks ago and is now slowly enlarging by moving toward the center of the screen. One can see the picture "behind" the darkend screen but just barely. Is this the normal life of the lamp (about 6-7 months)? Or is the problem something else? Thanks

This really shouldn't be the normal life of the lamp inside your TV...plasmas are meant to last at least one full year, up to three depending on how many hours per day they are used (I'm sure you can figure out where on that scale your tv lies). It could be caused by magnetic field interference, most likely from a speaker sitting too close to the tv. The magnetic field that is produced by the speaker refocuses the color on the tv, causing dark spots; they can sometimes appear as red or purple tinted areas as well. Most of today's tv's (especially plasmas) and speakers are set up so as not to do this, however you can never really be positive that it will not happen. If you have speakers near your tv, move them at least a two feet away, but the farther the better. Unfortunately, there is no real fix for this problem unless you take the tv to a professional and see if they can de-magnetize that section of the tv. I hope this helps some...if you don't have speakers near your tv then I apologize for wasting your time! haha, at least you'll know for future reference though. Your best bet anyway is to return the tv back to where you bought it or call the manufacturer; if it's only 6-7 monthes old, it should still be under warranty. Good luck!!

Small dark area in corner of screen on Samsung HLP5085W

What you have is a lens that has been jarred loose or a plastic support melted. That's what it sounds like anyway. you may have a recall on this problem if it is common for your model. Not likely something you can fix yourself. if you are Gadget inclined you maybe able to though. check recalls first.

Dark band on left side, Samsung HL-R5668W

the reflecting mirror is likely loose and falling down inside the light reflecting tube. you should have seen the band getting darker and larger,
the small mirror is in front of the lamp and bends the light,
remove the lamp and look down the tube (light path)

Red-striped ghost images.

when you leave your TV (no matter what kind) and you leave it for long periods of time on a static image or something.. the image tends to burn in to the screen... so changing the glass would be a way to fix it.... the problem is that that kind of repairmen is more expensive and difficult than buying a new set...

Picture discoloration to left and right of screen.....

Hi! Guy,
This sounds like the G2 may not be properly adjusted, providing too much beam current.
This will some times cause feather edging, or lighter than normal raster on some scenes. This set should be serviced by a qualified service tech.
