If it is just dripping a little and it is outside don't even bother until to freezes up. The pool will evaporate much more water than is leaking through the pump.
It is difficult to see exactly where the leak originates. Obviously the drips are coming from the front of the pump, but the leak may be elsewhere. I would suspect that the origin may be at the seal, because a breech in front of the seal would not allow the pump to catch prime. This normally indicates that the pump has run for some amount of time with no water flowing through it. However it also is not clear if the pump is running or not. In the case of an above ground pool, water may leak at any point that there may be a breech at any point, being that the pump is below water level. Look very closely at the drip and try to follow it upstream to see if you can determine where the water is originating. Hard to troubleshoot based on available info.
sounds like a shaft seal leak..... cut power to pump ... unbolt the motor at the seal plate and pull motor from pump... take electrical cover off back of pump and hold the shaft at the middle (may have to do some digging to find it) of the back of the pump... now youll be able to remove the impeller by spinning it counter clockwise...
make sure you dont go cheap on the seals... and make certain to replace all seals on pump
(diffuser oring, housing gasket, shaft seals, and lid gasket
suction side leak... your grabbing air somewhere in the suction line.... take a hose at low pressure and with the pump running put it over various parts of the suction line... including your pump lid... if the problem goes away and you have no more air in the pump then you know what your problem is
You have to completely disassemble the pump and motor to replace a seal and the bearing(s). It is better to take it to a local electric motor repair shop if you are not sure how to complete these repairs. We charge about $60 total for the job and guarantee it a year. Most shops should be about the same.
