160 Gig Lacie Design By F A Porsche Fire Wire HDD Bad Fire Wire connection

When I power up the drive and connect it to the Firewire port it pulls down the the port and is not noticed. If I remove the drive and put it in another case with a new firewire or USB2 interface the drive works fine. Where can I get a new LaCie interface card to go in the case?

You might try going to the manufacturers website and request a new one from them.

Drive is not ready to be read ?Error Check/device/harddisk1/DR7 ?

if you external hdd do not show on other computers, usually it meant that power supply on these casings die... but in this particular case it is possible that power supplied by usb port is insufficient to support data transfer. connect recommended power supply (on the back of this particular model you have usb plug and power plug, power supply is/was sold separately) usually hdd inside is still fine and retain data.

if this did not solve your problem, i would suggest purchase little powered universal hdd craddle, they cost about $15 to $25, remove, hdd from casing and connect to the craddle. data should be then accessible directly from your usb port.

as long as hdd is turning, data is accessible and recoverable, even if disk was wiped off.

I have a lacie design by F.A. Porsche 250Gig Hard drive - It has failed and is making a buzzing sound follwed by a beep - is this repairable?

Sounds like the hard drive in the Lacie has fauled.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If it deosn't detect it as an external drive and you connot open folders and files then it is faulty.
You can install a new hard drive in the Lacie and then format in FAT32.

My Lacie 500GB drive shuts my laptop down when i connect it.

similar issue: my notebook hangs instead of restarting. i thought its the usb2.0 of my rather old(3yr) notebook. but i bought a cheap usb box for my old 120G hdd and it plug-n-play like a charm on the same old notebook/same usb port. quite frustrated with this Lacie 500G beast.

so i ended up backing up my notebook using the 1-click backup of Lacie but using my old 120G hdd instead of the new Lacie500G. but then, search as i would through the Lacie documentation, i see no mention of how to restore the data... still looking...

LaCie Design by F. A. Porsche 160 GB not showing on MacBook Pro

The first thing that I would do is try connecting the drive to different USB Ports. If that does not work see if there is any software that came with the drive or that you can download from the internet that you might need to get the drive working. Next I would connect it to a different computer to see if it works that way. If it works when connected to a different computer I would at least get the files on to that computer and transfer them to the computer that you need them on using a network connection, a CD/DVD, or a USB thumb drive.

NO device decteted

Lacie Porsche drives in my experience or infamous for not having the most durable bridge boards. The bridge board is a chip that has a chipset on it which take the SATA or PATA connection and send it to the USB and or Firewire ports on the enclosure. If the drive is powered up, you should get a small red or orange light on the front. When connected to either mac or pc ( porsches are MS_DOS formatted out the box ), if it does not mount or does not appear in DISK UTILTY, then it is a high probability that the enclosure/bridge board has failed and the drive ( if not making grinding, buzzing, clicking or beeping sounds) will have to be extracted and placed into a more stable enclosure. Hope this helps.
