Hello Arpi! Bertman here; Nicetameetcha! My HC3 is sickly - I bumped it on wood (not even hard) and the front shutters came loose and just "flop around". When I turn on the camera, I can hear the motors trying to open the shutters, then it tells me I can't record because "Lens cover not fully open. Turn power off then on." This of course does nothing to fix it - the shutters are mechanically disengaged from the motor that opens them. I see you posted a reply to a HC90 owner that they just needed to replace the lens barrier. (Part number 178727811) -- Do you know a similar part for the HC3? The unit is otherwise working perfectly. I want to open it myself if I knew how to unscrew the front and get the shutters reconnected. (It seems the "jumped the track" and just need to be re-set.) What say ye? Thanks! - Bert :o)
Well, replacement of the shutter unit (lens barrier)instead of the repair seems more realistic... The part number is: 178739811 Please contact your nearest Sony Service for the price estimate. If you need more info please advice. Arpi

Hello Bert,
__to begin with, please check the attachment. One of the first steps is to discharge the capacitor. I would rather not encourage you to do the repair yourself. __My moto is - best things are simple.__So, please ask a pro to do it for you.____Arpi__PS: if you still want to do the job please advice and I will send you more pictures

Thanks Arpi!
Finding the part from online distributors was easy - it's a $52 part. But I cannot find any instructions on how to install it. Would those be included with the part? Are any special tools needed, and is it "plug and play?"
Thanks again,
- Bert :o)

I see, and there are a lot of parts. I have access to an electrostatic workbench and have friends very experienced with electronics, so I am willing to proceed. If you have all the diagrams I need, great; it will save me from spending $15 at ManualsParadise, and your guidance will be much appreciated. I will watch for your posting, thanks!

Hello Arpi!
I have engaged a technician to help with the repair. Can you email me higher-resolution images of the manual? Please send them to fixyahdrhc3 @ hotmail.com (I created this temporary email just for this.) Thanks!!!
