My tv is not reading the remote every time. Sometimes the remote works with the tv and other times it does not. It doesn't seem to be a remote problem as it does the same thing with another remote. What should I do next? Thank you.
Tried all 3 you listed. Batteries are new and I shielded the TV and remote from sunlight and fan. Still no luck. Anything else??Tried all 3 you listed. Batteries are new and I shielded the TV and remote from sunlight and fan. Still no luck. Anything else??
It is weird because we have had no problems in the 3 years we have owned the TV. I bought a new remote thinking that was the problem and it worked fine for a couple of days and then went wonky. That's what made me think is was in the TV instead of the remote. Could it be some kind of loose wire in the TV?It is weird because we have had no problems in the 3 years we have owned the TV. Re:
Some devices simply use low performing infra red devices.
Which means that they will work only in a specific angle and from a near distance.
See if you can find an angle & distance which the remote works well for. If you do, this means that there's little else to do but to continue and use it in that angle and distance.
Let me know if this helped.

Re:
Some suggestions:
1. Try fresh batteries in the remote. Weak batteries make it hard for the TV to see the signal from the remote.
2. Is there sunlight or ambient light hitting the TV on the infrared receiver (the part which sees the remote)? If so, it could be "blinding" the TV.
3. DO you have a ceiling fan which is casting a "flashing shadow" onto the TV? This can interfere with its ability to see the remote.
1. make sure there is nothing sitting in from of the TV's intrared receiver. Infrared remotes require line-of-sight.
2. make sure the lenses on the receiver and the emitter (on the remote) are clean.
I doubt either of these will do it, but I would feel bad if these were the problem and I didn't say anything.
Beyond this, all I can think of is that the contacts inside the remote are dirty. You would have to take the remote apart and clean it to find out. If you are handy with electronics (and tiny plastic things that like to break when you look at them wrong), then this is the next logical thing to try. If you aren't handy, then this is a good way to destroy your remote. The only other (longshot) suggestions involve:

Are you using a remote, or try to turn on manually. If your remote does not work, it needs to be programed to your t.v. And all remotes and t.v.s have different codes. Sometimes your cable provider will help you program your remote, or reset your cable box. My remote for my cable was not programmed, so I had to read the instructions myself to get the remote to work with the cable box channels.
Hello If the remote control doesn't work, just buy one RCA RCR model universal remote control. Without remote control, you can't set the time to this set.
What type receiver and remote do you have? Do you have new batteries in the remote? If you put the remote up close to the sensors on the receiver (TV 1) or the antenna on the back of the receiver (TV 2, if dual receiver), does it work normally? Please let me know. Thanks.
11531 is the code given by DirecTV for this model. To enter this code . . .
1. Slide the mode switch at the top of the remote to the TV position 2. Hold both the MUTE and SELECT buttons until the LED blinks twice 3. Enter the 5-digit code 11531 4. Test the volume and power buttons for correct operation with the TV
If the code does not work first time, try entering the code a couple more times. If it still doesn't work, also try code 11436. DirecTV do not list any other codes for your TV, so if they don't work, it's possible that the remote will not work with your TV. There is also a code search option which tries every code in the remote. If this doesn't work, the remote definitely will not work with your TV.
Please try the codes above and let me know if you need further assistance or the code search instructions. Also, remember to slide the mode switch back to the DirecTV position after you have finished entering the codes.
I think you'll find that the tv is at fault. I, unfortunately bought one of these **** things as well. If you try to turn the channel, or volume, at the tv itself, you'll find that it won't work either. Seems to happen when switching between HD and regular programming a lot, but can happen at any time. You get what you ( and I ) paid for....
Have just read up on this. It seems you have to hold the - volume on the front of the TV at the same time as the no 7 on the remote for 5 secs to reset the PIN number.
I would start by trying other codes on the universal remote. Sometimes codes will only work part of the remote such as the numbers or channels but not volume. Your motorola cable remote sounds like it may only need a good cleaning. sometimes when you take remotes apart it will look like somthing got spilt in it. I would start there first.
