check page 57 - see if there is a timer lock activated somehow or a ratings lock
check that the button on the remote is not malfuntioning by taking the batteries out and see if the problem persists

check that there is not a problem with the bulb or the cooling fan - maybe an overheat safety device switching your screen off and then back on again.

you need to contact hitachi because its a manufacturer defect...its called the light engine if im not mistaken that makes it turn funny colors...about 300 or better to get it fixed or call hitachi and whine and complain till they fix it...
It is a failure in the light engine itself. You will need to have it replaced. Here is a link to that rather costly part.
My Hitachi 50V500 won't turn on. When I hit the power button the blue power button, then the temp light, then the lamp light all blink like it does during normal start up....this happens for a while then I hear this static-ee noise from the set...like a bee or really loud fly type of noise...then the set turns off.
Just to followup....I ended up unplugging the tv for about 30min and the TV started up as normal.
