Question about ScanSoft Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 (a109a-g00-8.0) for PC
I have a great computer (2.5 GHz and 2GB RAM) which works quickly and multi-tasks well. I have recently reinstalled XP which has made it even better. But, the Dragon program has quickly become painfully slow. When I first start a document, it takes ages before it initially responds and then it slows down and speeds up erratically, sometimes leaving me hanging for a minute or two. It's SO frustrating. Can anyone help. I'd be HUGELY appreciative. Many thanks, Rose
If everything is working well on the PC and the Dragon software is newly having a problem I would try uninstalling it from Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and then reinstalling. Very odd that one piece of software would cause the PC to act slower. Does it use a lot of disk space? Maybe try a Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter (All Programs, Accessories, System Tools).

Hi Shayna,
Thank you for the advice. When using such a CPU intensive piece of software, I find myself defragging every couple of days. What I just discovered was slowing things down so dramatically was a Windows-based speech process that was running in the background. It is called cftmon.exe and its removal has returned my speech recognition program to its former (very fast) speed. I am grateful for the time you gave to the consideration of my problem. Many thanks, Rose.
