If I have not turned the camera on in a while it works fine. But after I've had it on maybe about 10 minutes my display will read R.EMG and the tape will stop playing. I also noticed that when this happens the camera will start to eat the tape. What should I do to troubleshoot? I tried doing what the manual said but first I take the tape out and the proceed with the manual instructions to "Turn the camera off and take the battery off, replace the battery and turn the camera back on", it doesn't work. Is there a solution that I can do or is it out of my hands and need to go a repair shop. Thanks for a quick response.
Hi
after disassembling my cam corder I figured out that the small gearwheel driving the 2 inner tape guiding rolls guiding and holding the tape around the video head is broken. This specific gearwheel has not teeth going around 360 degrees, but has a small nob and a area without teeth. The mentioned small nob on my gearwheel was broken off and therefore the inner posts are not moving up and down tightening and guiding the tape anymore!
Has anyone an idea where to get a replacement gearwheel?
Thanks

The belts that drive the tape are most likely defective.

SOURCE: Mechanical problem "C.EMG" from my SC-A30 camcorder
This is a great little inexpensive camcorder here in the states. My experience with this model with those symptoms have been mode switch problems or a broken cam that throws the camcorder mechaism out alinment. These babys are nothing like the full size camcordersas you need special alighment jigs and lots of luck(lol) Reason i say that is because the manuals are not the most complete with the mechanical alighnment and you have to have some experience with other brands as afetr all mostly work about the same way in several ways as theres only so many ways to move a tape. These camcorder also suffer rfom the dreaded sony cap problem where they used those small serface mount caps made by panasonic and when you have on in for service you ended up in most cases replaceing several at a time as you would find all sorts of other tiny problems that the customer forgot to tell ya like veifinder problems and the shutting fown after a few hours ect ect. Best thing for you is to order a manual or ship it out to a repair depot to have fixed BUT in tellin ya its probably cost prohibited because of the time it takes to sevice these pups. Good Luck

SOURCE: camcorder not working says 'c-emg' on screen
That error code is telling you hey i've got a mechanical problem because when the microprocessor tells me to move the mode switch is suppose to send signals back to the processor to let the mechanism know where its at and in this case the processors not getting the right codes or signals so it wont let you use it, and thats why it will eject if a tape is inserted. Now unless you have all the special tools ,jigs and adaptors to repair this including a service and a mechanism manual you really should take this unit in as there are really no serviceable parts inside for the consumer to replace. Sorry i couldnet be more helpfull. Good Luck

SOURCE: what do L.EMG and R.EMG mean and why do they prevent me from any activity with my camera?
Hello, The errors you are getting are "reel" errors. One or both of the tape reels are not turning during tape movement and the camera is shutting down to protect itself and your tape. In this model this problem is usually caused by the take up reel shaft being bent due to improper insertion of the cassette although this may not be the case. Please inspect both the takeup and supply tape reels and insure they are in correct alignment, if not, a gentle push to one side or the other will place them back in operating position. Good luck to you. Joe Weibel CustomElectronics.Org

A RECALL WOULD BE A GREAT SOLUTION SINCE I TOO AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT OR FAIR. I BOUGHT HTIS FOR MY WIFE 25TH WEDDING ANNV. USED THREE TIMES AND NOW NO PICTURE. SOUND BUT NO PICTURE. I TOO WILL PURCHASE A DIFFERENT BRAND.
