I have a hayward veriflow xl filter that is spitting dirt back into the pool. I do not see and obvious problem when I dissassemble the filter.

The problem is a malfunctioning check valve. It'll be somewhere in the line on the pump output side. If it's not a separate fitting it'll be in the line, probably in an elbow.
Need further info, let me know...

This website contains a copy of the owners manual for the S180T pool filter. It should have all of the information that you need.

It is in PDF format. let me know if you have any trouble opening it.

The model number you give is for the multi port valve. Did you need the valve manual or the filter manual? Go to haywardnet.com for their full line and manuals. Here is the link for the SP0714 valve at their site. It is in PDF format...
As far as the pressure gauge goes on these pool filters, those work for a short amount of time then they go bad. I would have to ask you two questions. Do you have good strong suction from the skimmer? Do you have a strong flow from the return? If the answer to both of these questions is yes then I don't think you have a problem other than a bad pressure gauge. Also you said the pressure is the same but you did not mention if it is still spitting out sand. If it is and the laterals are all ok I would recommend replacing the spider gasket.
