Scanned image comes out all black

This appears to be a Ricoh printer error message. Error messages are generally brand specific.

In other words, it appears to be a message that a physical component of the printer is blown, bad, defective. That leaves you looking up the warranty and weighing the cost of repair or replacement. As you have not identified the model of the printer, it is impossible to weigh the cost/reward of repair.

The device has experienced an internal hardware error.

• Turn off the power by using the power switch, wait at least 30 seconds, and then turn on the power and wait for the device to initialize.If the error persists, replace the scanning assembly.

go to device manager look for imaging device (scanner) right click and uninstall. / click scan for hardware changes tab, found new hardware must be appeared and click next / select don't search, i will choose the driver to install / click show compatible hardware and choose scanner driver found and click next. and finish.

Try reinstalling the driver and application software again.

If you get a "Scanner failure" message then the problem is the motor itself. Notice how the motor works fine when the scanner is moving slowly, like copies or faxing with the original laid on the glass. HOWEVER, the scanner failure comes up when you use the automatic document feeder on top. Why? Because the scanner assembly has to move to the other side of the printer at high speed to get into position, and it's the high speed movement that triggers the error on the printer. The motor is expensive, part number Q3450-60003. Many other models use the same motor, maybe you could find one cheap somewhere and swap the motor?
