I'm not sure if you have the FAX machine hooked up but if everything is properly connected ....Your HP should have a FAX button. Make sure you have that selected to be in that mode. Also you can try to dial out any number to make sure you have a dial tone. You should hear a ring and receive a FAX as long as you do not have an answering machine stopping the call. Hope this helps...Michael

The first thing that I would try multiple people to ask them to fax you.Sometimes the 2 machines don't "sync".This is a toll free fax test number that I always use to check my machines..1-888-473-2963.Just write the words "FAX TEST" in large letters on a blank sheet of paper..fax it to that number...leave the line open...you should get a fax back in about a minute. If you get a fax back...your machine is fine...let me know if this was helpful....thanks.
Printing a Fax in Memory
If you have Fax Storage ON for remote retrieval, you can still print a fax in the
memory when you are at your machine:
1 Press Menu/Set, 8, 4.
2 Press Fax Start.
3 Press Stop/Exit.
(See Turning On Fax Storage, page R-2.)
Polling
For details about the Polling feature, call our Brother fax-back system
1-800-521-2846 (in USA), 1-800-681-9838 (in Canada) and request at the Index.
(See Features That Are Not in the Manual, page 6-6 for details.)
Polling is the process of retrieving faxes from another fax machine. You can use your
fax machine to "poll" other machines, or you can have someone poll your machine.
All parties involved in polling need to set up their fax machines to accommodate
polling. When someone polls your machine to receive a fax, they pay for the call; if
you poll someone's fax machine to receive a fax, you pay for the call.
(See Canceling a Scheduled Job, page 6-5.)
Some fax machines do not respond to the Polling feature.
You need to make sure that your fax machine's ability to receive an incoming fax has been enabled. Please read your manual and follow the instructions to enable receipt of faxes.
hi
it appears that the fax machine is in manual receive mode!!
you need to put the machine in auto mode or auto answer or auto receive mode with the reception mode or auto answer button next to the LCD display!!
I think I know why. You need to set the proper priority of your all-in-one Canon device. If it is TEL priority, it means you need to have a phone connected to the fax. If the phone rings, you need to pick up the handset and check if it's a fax tone or a call. If it is fax tone, you wait for 5 secs til fax tone stops, and then hang up. After that you will receive the fax. Failure to pick up the handset will not allow you to receive the fax. This might be the most probable setting you have, hence you can't receive the fax. If it is FAX priority, the same thing happens as TEL priority. Only difference is if you don't pick up, and it is a fax, it will still receive. You can also do FAX only. No need to connect a phone. Device will receive automatically.
