    i connected
my PS3 to a friend’s HD TV. I even used a HDMI cable, so I configured the
console to 1080i. Now that I connected it in my TV with AV cables I have no display
at all. I tried to go back to the HD and reconfigure the console to the AV
    cables option but didn’t work.

my brand new ps3 was working fine on my older tv using av cables. When I tried to update the system it would say that the connection timed out. When I connected the console to my HD tv using HDMI cables it worked fine and I was able to update the console. When I attempted to connect the console back using av cables, it would even come up or display the fact that it is connected. Help... I really was looking forward to playing Call of Duty online

ive got a 1st generation PS3 and just recently started using an HDMI output cable with it in comparison to the 5 prong HD output cables.  It worked fine one night, and the next morning I went to turn it on and all i get is a Unusable Signal on my screen (default for my tv when it doesnt find an input on that channel)
i tried putting the 5 prong hd cables back in but i still get the same results.

I forgot my to change my PS3's display settings from HDMI to AV. Now I can't see the menu to change it back to AV on my regular, non-HD T.V.

Is there a way to reset the settings? Or maybe someone can guide me through changing it with no visuals?

  • Anonymous May 20, 2009

the light on my ps3 will show up but i can't see the display on the tv. I changed my settings from three prong to HDMI when we got an hd tv and i removed the cable so that the cable could be used for other purposes. My tv is now hd and i can't see anything on the screen.

To all those who cannot see any display..hold down the on/off button until it beeps once, then wait a few seconds until it beeps again, the ps3 will have reset itself and will adjust the visual settings to fit your tv

This doesn't work for me. Every time I try it, my ps3 just keeps turning off. It won't reset at all. I've tried everything anyone has suggested on the net to do but it still won't work. Anybody have any other suggestions. I see the screen flash when I turn it on but nothing appears on the screen. I've tried turning off the tv and unplugging it and the ps3 and turning them back on, and everything else. please help.

This works where the others didn't. turn OFF your ps3. then hold down power button about 5 seconds until the ps3 beeps. then follow your onscreen prompts.

It does NOT lose the memory by holding the on/off button down for a few seconds. It works to get the display back after running on HDMI.

I've this before. I connected my PS3 to HDTV via HDMI cable and for sound I've AVR connected via opitcal cable. The sound are playing well, but I got no luck on display. I checked HDMI, Component, AV cables, but still I got nothing even with resting PS3 setting (holding power button 5 seconds in the start-up). Then I turned of my TV for couple minutes then I turn it on, with my previous cables setup, and resting PS3 setting again, I turned on the PS3 and I got the display.

It appears that's the TV was stuck or something.

The system does not load discs. At the start up screen there is a little green dot in the upper right hand corner saying that the system wants to load disc, however for some odd reason it does not load.

Yes, that is a possibility, try to locate the manual that came with the console which will have info on how to reset the PS3.

Did you try to use the VGA to HDMI convertor to plug the system on your TV?

All you do is turn the ps3 on.. and then after the green lights on hold the button again for like 10 seconds and it resets the video settings..

The usb cable on my ps3 is not working will not play on any tv in house it plays with hdmi cables

Playstation 3's will not output display information via usb, it does although have a traditional Playstation style connector port for displaying via component cable/ AV cable. To switch to this display setting without having access to an HDMI television press and hold the power button until the PS3 beeps for a second time. Pressing once it will beep but continue holding until the device beeps again and it will boot into a display "safe mode" and ask you to verify your display settings.

Hi our PS3 has no sound or picture. It does have the green power light on.

What is probably happening, is your PS3 is set for the wrong type of output. If you are using an HDMI cord, try switching to the AV cables that came with your PS3, and set your TV at the appropriate input to correspond with the AV hookups, and see if the picture works then.
If you are using the AV cables, it may have been set to HDMI accidentally. You need to use an HDMI cord, and hook the PS3 up to an HDMI compatible TV or monitor, and select the HDMI input. Once you get the picture working, go to Settings>Display Settings and set the display you wish to use.

When I turn my ps3 on, there is no audio/video. I don't think it's a software update problem, as I was playing my ps3 about two/three hours ago. I turn it off at the back, chill for a couple seconds, then...

  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

My screen stays blank when I turn on. Lights blue and green come on but screen stays blue

If your display settings aren't set to automatic this can occur. Example: if you have set resolution to 1080i and are trying to play it on a display that has 1080p you will get a blank screen or no signal message. you will have to connect your PS3 to the last display you had an image on and change the "display setting" to "automatic" for your PS3 to work on all displays. when you choose a specific resolution to the "display settings" it will only work on that specific resolution. hope this helps.

My ps3 will boot up and the green light is on but i cannot see what is being displayed. i once changed the settings from the three prong to HDMI cable and since then i have not been able to view anything...

1. Turn off the PS3
2. Plug in whatever cable you are going to use
3. Hold the power button down until it beeps once followed by two quick beeps

This resets the display settings to defaults and you will see the picture again.

"Invalid format" how do I change from 1080p to 1080i or 720i?

I had a second playstation hooked to another tv in my home and took a controller from the non-LG-TV-displaying ps3 and one from a working ps3 on a seperate TV. And used the working ps3 to guide me to the settings menu on the ps3 that was not displaying video. Anyways, if you cannot see the tv screen because it is set on 1080p and your LG will not display it (Only displays up to 1080i). Start The PS3 and press the D-pad buttons in this order.

Left 10+ times. (This Takes you to the far left icon in the XMB)
Right Once. (This is the settings icon)
Down 20+ times. (To reach the bottom of the settings)
Then Up 4 times (This is Display Settings)
Press "X" Once. (This enters Display Settings)
Press Up 5 times (This Makes Sure you are at the top of the sub-menu at Video Output Settings)
Press "X" Once (This Enters Video Output Settings)

Before pressing any more buttons, Know what cables you have pluged into your TV.
For HDMI Just Press "X" and it will auto adjust to for the new TV.
For Component / D-Terminal Output Press Down Once Then "X", and X Again (This changed my ps3 from the 1080p-Invalid Format back to 1080i and fixed my problem.
For Composite Video Output Press Down Twice, Then "X" and X again.

For AV MULTI / SCART Output Press Down Three Times, Then "X"and X again.
