Follow the instructions carfully.
First start by trying a soft rest. To do this, hold the power button for 45 seconds when it becomes frozen. After the 45 seconds, if the player continues to freeze on the same screen, please format the player.
To format the player please follow these steps.
Place the player into recovery mode by powering the player off and engaging the hold switch on the top of the player where you can see the color orange. Hold down the Record button while plugging in the player to the computer untill you see "Welcome to Recovery Mode" listed on the screen of the player. Click on start and then My Computer. Once in the My Computer window, you should see a 16 MB Format listed in the window. Double click on 16 MB Format. Once in the 16 MB, right click and go to new on the menu that pops up and choose Folder. Rename the folder "sansa.fmt". Unplug the player and it should say "Formatting". Once the format is complete and "Key Lock - System Shutdown" is displayed, restart the player.

I have the same problem. How do i solve it?
everytime i turn on my sansa e250 it says refresh data base free 6mb
ok...so i've had this player for 2 years, but problem has started just recently, everytime i unplug it from my computer(even just to charge) it says refreshing database. After doing that it's fine. But when I sync music to it, it will say that it was sync'd succesfully, but the music does not show up on the sansa, also all of the music that is allready on it does not show up on the sync list on WMP 11. It is a 2 gig that is almost completely full, could this be related to the problem?
