I've got Sony DSC-P200 Digital camera for the last almost 3 years. It was all working fine up until last two months. It has developed a fault. It very rarely takes good balanced pictures. All other pictures are either too dark or too bright. Camera is on full Auto mode. I've always been using it on Auto mode and it was working fine. I've tried resetting it by the reset button under the battery flap. No change at all. I've tried power resetting it as instructed by Sony, taking battery out and pressing power button for 30 seconds and then putting battery back in. Still no joy. Flash seems to be malfunctioning as sometimes it throws so much light and sometimes very little. Can you please help me fixing it as it is very annoying at the moment.
Thanks.
SOURCE: camera won't turn ON
First off, everything was not fine until this morning. You had this occur a month ago. Frankly, I would have done exactly as you did a month ago and nothing more. I have seen too many electrical problems permanently solved by turning a device off and then on, or by rebooting. Here is what I would generally recommend: 1. See what the camera manual suggests. 2. Charge the batteries fully before using them. New ones are often not charged up. They could have been in a warehouse for months. 3. The electrical contacts on your camera, the ones that interface with the batteries, may be a little corroded. If you can access them easily, try cleaning them with the eraser on the end of a pencil. Same with the batteries themselves. 4. If exposed to prolonged high humidity, electrical problems may include not only the power supply, but other electrical switches, such as the reset button., which you cannot address on your own. 5. Call Sony.

SOURCE: Flash is inconsistent
I have the same issue. One picture the flash is perfect the next there seems to be a "half" powered flash and the pic is dark
SOURCE: when using flash, my sony cyber-shot dsc-t10 takes forever to take pictures!
Have you tried Hi-Speed memory cards, as writing speed of the card affects the response time of camera, I am using Sony MSX-M2GN 2GB and it's gives me quite good response.
Other thing you might try is format the memory card using camera, camera has card format functionality and it does also improve the performance of the camera.

I have the same problem - the camera seems to take pics okay without flash but when using flash, pics are too dark or too bright
I got the same problem. I tried program, manual and scene modes, all of them gave similar resutls. Also, it is inconsistent. I could figure out if the picture will be good or not just by seeing the amount of light the flash gave -- most of the time (>85%) not enough light, ~10% over exposure and ~5% just about right. It is frustrating.
No Sony any more
