The play, rewind switches won't stay down

Replaced all 3 belts. Play and rewind buttons don't stay down. Rewind doesn't work well even with new belt.

If the solenoids are tripping the button controls, this is either a bad sensor, or there is improper operation of the reels or capstan drive. It is also possible that the drive circuits to the reel motors or solenoid control are not working properly.  An experienced service tech who knows tape decks should be able to service this for you. I have advised people before that replacing belts is not the only answer and sometimes people that are not experienced can upset some part of the deck without knowing it. We don't yet know the model or brand of the unit and from the description this kind of points to a Piano key or lever key type deck. I could also be a cam system deck. This complaint of buttons not staying down would not apply to a tack switch or solenoid type transport.
Like Jerry says a visit to a good Tech is the answer. I have been doing tape decks for 40 years and have worked at Sony and Teac service shops. If you need my help let me know. I am near Chicago.

SOURCE: Cassette Recorder play problem

Left(Playback) deck of cassette player turns off within about 2 sec's after inserting a cassette to play. Rewind and Fast Forward stop also after about 1 to 2 seconds. When pushing button to play it turns back off right away. I suspect the end of tape/tension sensor is the culprit but do not know where it is. Have not taken any steps except finding this site first off!

SOURCE: Tape deck won't play.

Hi...
From being a Pro-tech and working on these and other like them I'd say it's the main belt+ idler wheel that has worn out.
Very challenging job to do..Like knightstar7 said

SOURCE: Akai X-360 Reel to Reel won't play

The Akai X-360 will not function if the remote control or the remote dummy plug is not plugged in to the back of the machine. The remote Dummy plug has two jumpers for completing the circuit paths for the relays so that the front panel buttons will function.

Testimonial: "Thank you Alfredjparks! After buying a second unit for parts I noticed it had the remote plug and bingo it worked! You were spot on! J."

Microcassette won't play but does rewind and fast forward

I have the 3 of these units at my office with the exact same problem. Turns out, with a little tinkering there is a simple fix.

Open up the unit (by unscrewing the two screws underneath) and look for a brass disk with a black rubber band around it that connects to a small tip. The rubber band should be either stretched, broken, or even melted. This is the problem. Over time the rubber band deteriorates which causes the unit to not play a tape (rewind and fast forward operate differently).

Replace the deteriorated rubber band with a new one similar in thickness and size. That should work like a charm. Be careful if the original rubber band has melted. It is tar-like and will be difficult to remove.

Hope this helps.

Magnavox dv220mw9 the vcr player won't play

Someone will have to open the unit to see what is happening---either tape is not loading all the way or when FF or Rewind hit not moving the reels----could be as simple as a belt or a bad drive idler (most use either a rubber wheel or gears to move the tape in Play, FF, and Rewind.

Toshiba vm42 beta player won't stay on play

Wow! A beta unit.

what most likely is wrong is the drive mechanism is either worn or slipping or you have a bad belt that drives that.

A trick to try--put it in fast forward and let it run all the way to end of tape and then rewind all the way a few times.

if it will then try to work in play it is either a idler (rubber drive wheel) or slipping belts.

They used to sell kits with the drive idler and all the belts but that was a long time ago..........

Hi, I am seeking the region free code for a Samsung DVD-D530? Thanks!

I tried the above steps, but each time when restarting the DVD player, it said 'reset' and asked for the language to be selected again. Pressing the "Fast Forward Fast Rewind Fast Forward Up Down" sequence caused the player to lock up and require powering off at the wall.
I found on another web site that there are different initial sequences. Once I use the one for Region 2, it worked fine.

I found the instructions below on another web site, but it worked for me...
  • Make sure there is no disc in the player.
  • Turn on the player (you can use remote control or front panel, it doesn't matter)
  • Wait for "No Disc" message to appear on the TV screen.
  • Press the Repeat button on remote (plain, not A-B).
  • Press the correct sequence of buttons of remote according to the original region code of your player (it's on the sticker on the back panel of the player). FF = fast forward, FR = fast rewind.
    • Region 2 players: FF, FR, FF, UP, DOWN
    • Region 3 players: FF, PLAY, FR, UP, LEFT
    • Region 4 players: FR, PLAY, DOWN, DOWN, RIGHT
    • Region 5 players: FF, UP, DOWN, STOP, RIGHT
    • Region 6 players: LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, PLAY, LEFT
  • If you pressed the correct sequence, a small white number 0 will appear somewhere on the top right of the screen. The white number 0 of the same font and size as the "No Disc" message, so don't confuse with the red "not allowed" sign that would appear when you press a function that's not available.
  • Turn the player off and on again, then you can pop in a DVD of any region and watch immediately.
Good luck!

Do you still have the remote control? Try with the remote. If this works, the button of the camera is broken and have to be replace by a qualified technician. Good luck!
