The spring attachment to the moving latch has broken off either replace the latch or drill a small hole in the latch body and attach some heavy steel wire to make a new attach point for the spring. the inside trim easily pops off and the latch just slides off.

First of all, if it's less than a year old, it will be under warranty and you should contact Samsung to cover the service. You can try the number in your manual or try samsung.com
There is a drive motor that opens and closes the vent fan door. It or an associated switch may have failed.

SOURCE: Same problem - The handle broke off when opening.
Since it's less than six months old, it will be under warranty.
You can contact the manufacturer for free repair.
Just look up their contact information in your owner's manual.
SOURCE: SAMSUNG MICROWAVE, MODEL SMH9187ST, WHEN NOT
Hi dschema,
You have a door switch issue. There are three behind the panel. If you can lift and hold the door and it starts one of them is bad for sure. You would be better off replacing all three or have a repair man replace them because a microwave can hold 3000v even unplugged.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

If you can lift the plastic door latch catches with no resistance, it is most likely the spring/plastic connector. I removed the inside black plastic bevel with a jewelers flat screw driver, prying from the latch side's external edge. Once it was started, I could pull it off with a gentle lift, watch the bottom and inside edge (Thanks Lukas Patterson). I took out the black plastic latch, drilled a hole near the broken piece and all was good. Updating, as my original fix wore out. I ordered a replacement latch prior to repairing the existing latch, same directions to gain access, just use the spring on the new latch and press on the plastic cover to re-seat.
