Dogs should wear collars for several reasons; most importantly to hang an identification tag. Other possible reasons for wanting your dog to wear a collar should include the following: they are helpful in training, and collars are a great help in teaching commands to your dog.

How do Dog hunting collars work?

If you are referring to remote trainers' collar then please know that all remote trainers have the same basic 3 components: Remote transmitter, Collar receiver and collar probes.

The transmitter sends a radio signal to the collar receiver. Then, the collar delivers the stimulation to the dog through the stainless steel collar probes. The probes are located on the dog's neck and must have direct contact with the dog's skin in order to properly function.

How does a martingale collar work?

A martingale collar is made of two loops. The large loop is placed around the dogs neck and adjusted to fit loosely. You then need to clip the leash on to the D-ring on the small loop. Essentially, when the dog then pulls on the collar, the pressure on the leash will pull the small loop taunt, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter around your dogs neck.

What is a step-in harness and why should I get one for my dog?

I have a step-in harness and I love it. It is very easy to use and is comfortable for my dog. To wear, the dog simply steps into the harness (hence the name) then brings the ends up over your dogs back and fasten the buckle. Very easy to use!

One of the most important sizing tips is to leave enough space for two fingers to fit between the collar and your dogs' neck.

Are dog harnesses more comfortable for my dog than collars?

Harnesses are a lot more comfortable than collars for the dog as the strain is evened out over the body - however getting them on is a bit of a chore and it's not comfortable for the dog to wear it all the time so I prefer to use a collar, they are not harmful and as long as they are not on too tight the dog isn't suffering. Also for identification a collar is always better as it is on all the time and you can add their tags to it.
