Dear Professionals,
Several symptoms and hoping that they have a common cure?
1) When TV is turned on, I have a fuzzy picture, as I change channel, the screen turns blue with diagonal lite blue lines and very faint images of recieved channel in background. Turning the TV off and back on clears the blue screen and returns the picture, but only until I attempt to change channel.
2) The viewable TV picture looks blurry with minor light fluctuations and a blue hue outlined around all dark colors.
3) As I attempted to align colors, the red aligned fine, however, the blue is so blurry that I cannot exactly tell where it needs to be set.
A things I noticed:
as I covered the all but the red crt, no light fluctuation and picture seemed fairly ledgable.
as I covered all but the blue crt, the picture was very blurry (non-ledgable), but no light fluctuation was observed.
as I covered all but the green crt, I had light flucuations on the channel I was watching.
It there are any test or if there is more information I can provide please let me know. As this TV is 10 years old, I do not want to dump too much money into it and any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Although I am a novice to TV repair, my electronics knowledge is above average.
Regards,
monty

Re:
Sounds like it is probably worth trying to degauss
check this excellent site;
http://woil.ws/fixmonitor/
for details of how to try this on the cheap - it works
If it doesnt solve your problem, the fact that you are getting different quality from different crt s suggests that they could be the root cause - see if you can get the part number, and get a price you may find it is cheap enough to be worth trying - check also the power supply - poor voltage output can sometimes cause these type of symptoms.
Hope this helps, if not post again - some of the other guys know tvs much better than me
:)
sounds like 2 different problems here.
first problem sounds tuner related.
second sounds convergence related.
third issue (cost effective to repair ?)
at this point i would replace the set.
i hope this helps

Hi vfg1575,
This symptoms is commonly caused by mis-aligned sound IF transformer. Due to aging, frequency produced by the IF transformer vary and will affect the performance of the sound output. Sometimes the re-alignment will cure the symptoms just within a minute. You must have an IF alignment tools to perform the alignment procedure. You must turn it counterclockwise/clockwise (little turn only) while the tv is on to hear the sound output produced. You will notice that the sound strength will vary as you turn the IF. The IF transformer is labelled in the board as SIF. Here's the sample picture of it.
If the symptoms didn't cure by the IF alignment the fault came from the sound output circuitry which is caused by faulty coupling sound input electrolytic capacitor, poor solder joints, faulty sound output IC.
If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the symptoms yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.
Note : If you are going to DIY, you must know safety precaution because any little mistake may hurt you and/or resulted in further damaged.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
