I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop and have a CD-Rom which was working absolutely fine till this evening. Today evening I tried to play one CD where in I had ejected the CD Rom which it did and I inserted the CD and tried to close the CD-Rom to play the CD where in turn its not yet all closing yet all
Can any one help me to know what is the problem
CD is working fine when I close the CD Rom and hold it without ejecting out again
I had informed you that I am able to eject . There is no problem with ejecting for my CD Rom it works when I right click but the problem is after ejecting it is not closing. As you know very well once we insert the cd we need to close the CD Rom manually as it is a laptop. when I am trying to close it its not closing yet allJohn,

Re:
Somthing thats worth trying is going into my computer, right click on the cdrom drive and click eject if it works that way then its software thats stopping it from ejecting, if it still dont work take a paperclip and push it in the small hole in the cdrom drive and it will pop out its only a temporary thing but it works to get the cd out..
All the Best

DVD/CD players use two different lasers. One to read DVD and one to read CD. Sounds like your DVD laser burned out. Lasers last about as long as light bulbs do.
CD's and DVD's has different speeds try to check your dvd player/rom if it is compatible with your cd/dvd disk. Some dvd players are sensitive it will not play perfectly if your cd's are scratched. try to use new cd's. It might work.
The Rom may need cleaning. There are two diamond heads in the rom one to read DVD and the other to read CD. The CD one is most likely dirty try cleaning it else its faulty and needs to be replaced.
