Re: canon s450 printer
New printer? Or have you changed them before? Make doubly sure all tape is off the new cartridge and that you did not accidentally touch the gold surface of cartridge (can result in read errors). Wipe it very softly with a non perfumed baby wipe, yes! a baby wipe! I have had good success this way. Also do a clean with the printers own cleaning system and print a test page after each clean or step. Run virus checks and spyware checks on pc just in case. Does it give any other error messages? You may have a badly clogged printhead (so notorious this range of canons for clogs) use proper cleaning solution and cotton buds and thoroughly clean where cartrigde goes (printhead) do not be afraid, repeat until no residue comes away. Try printing now.

The Canon i850 uses cartridges of type BCI-3. according to Canon, the color cartridges are compatible to: BJC-3000 Series, BJC 6000, i450, i550, i850 Series, MultiPASS F30, F50, F60, F80, MP 700 and MP 730, S400, S450, S500, S520, S530D, S600, S630, S630 Network and S750. The black one will work in a few more models.
some printers does not allow to work on refilled catridges that is why it is no detects your refilled catridges which means there is a sensor in side the printer which will check the the ink quality and its particles and it will check some sample ink from catridge with data inside the printer memory once if the printer found a match with ink and the data it will allow to print the content other wise it will no allow if you use original catridge provide by the company it will work...
Is this an original Canon or compatible cartridge? You can check the contacts on the rear of the cartridge, or try a new one, Sometimes even new ones will be defective.
It is most likely that your printer has a hardware problem. Either mainboard or "printerhead assembly". Re-install the drivers again, if the re-installation does not work then seek advice on cost of hardware parts.
G'Day Dennis,
OK try turning off printer at power point and leave for 10 to 15 minutes before starting again then try this reset proceedure again.
If it doesn't work, a new printer might be cheaper than taking yours for service, but if you use compatible inks, the price differance for cartridges might make a repair worthwhile. Canon S450 Printer 1: Power off printer 2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once. 3: Hold POWER and release RESUME 4: Press RESUME twice 5. Release Power button 6: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange. 7: Press Power to set data
Erm... the cartridge is wrong. There is not much more one can do to communicate the fact the cartridge is the problem.
Throw out the compatible one you bought - or if you want a refund, return it the store as faulty - and get a replacement. I suggest a genuine one since you had the problem with a faulty compatible (up to 30% of compatibles can be faulty)
I bet you a Fixya rating that once you replace the cartridge for a correct genuine item, your message will go away and your printer will once again be happy.
Try resetting the printer like this Canon S450 Printer 1: Power off printer 2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once. 3: Hold POWER and release RESUME 4: Press RESUME twice 5. Release Power button 6: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange. 7: Press Power to set data

Re-install cartridge or replace ityou probably don't have the ink cartridge installed correctly. make sure it is pushed and seated properly.
