Turn off and unplug the laptop, some where on the bottom of the laptop will be a single screw, about 5 inches from the DVD drive edge of the laptop, remove it, it may be a long. Once that is removed, open the drive's tray, using a paperclip (stick it into the "very small hole" in the front DVD drive draw, and press it in slowly...) the door/draw will open. Grab the door/draw and slowly pull out, IF it doesn't come out, you may have removed the wrong screw... try again.

Whenever i put a dvd/cd in my hp probook 4510s and try to open it, it insteads ejects

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, then close the lid and turn the laptop over and remove the one screw that holds the dvd drive in place on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the Dvd Drive and in about 20 seconds put it back in and Try rebooting to see if it solves the problem.

Your dvd drive might be defective and needs to be replaced. You can find one on ebay. Just put HP Probook 4510s DvD drive in the search.

Once you take the dvd drive out you can also search on the model of the dvd drive. The model will be listed on the dvd drive.

Does not recognize dvd drive

When you click Start/My Computer is the DvD drive shown as one of your devices? If not then try the steps below:
Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, turn the laptop over and remove the one screw that secures the dvd drive and pull the drive out. After 20 seconds plug the DvD drive back in, and then try booting to see if it is recognized. If the drive is not recognized then you will have to remove upper and lower filters.

If you are talking about the drive won't play a dvd then that's another issue. Most times computers have a hard time playing something that was created by someone else. Try a store purchased DvD and see if it recognizes and plays it.

How do I remove the DVD Drive on a Toshiba Satellite 1955-S805 laptop and where can I buy a new one

To remove the drive you will need to remove the small screw on the bottom of the laptop that holds the drive in place. Look for a CD symbol near a screw aproximatly 6 inches in from the DVD drive center. Remove that screw and the DVD should slide out. The best place to get a replacement drive is Ebay Do a search for the model and DVD and you should see many for sale

I have a IBM thinkpad that has a cd drive only. Is there a way to take out the cd drive and install a drive that is for cd's and dvd's. If so, how would I go about doing that and how much would it cost?

Hi, what it the model of your DVD? Please the correct driver here : www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TPAD-MATRIX.html

Other tips : CD and DVD drive troubleshooting
  1. Verify the disc media used.
Try multiple original discs (not burned copies) which are clean and free of scratches. See Information about CD and DVD media.
Note: Dark colored discs such as black may be more difficult to read.

  2. Verify that the disc is seated properly in the CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drive.

  3. Verify that the drive is seated properly in the ThinkPad system by reseating the drive.
If another similar machine is available, then verify that the drive works in the other machine and that the other drive works in this machine.
    Notes:
    • The CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drives cannot be removed in ThinkPad G40 and R50e systems.
    • Shut down, remove the power cord, and remove the battery from the ThinkPad system before removing the CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD drive.

I need to know how to remove a DVD drive for a HP lap top.

If your HP Pavilion DV6000 series laptop computer has a bad DVD drive, use the following steps to replace the drive

Purchase a new DVD drive to replace the old HP drive. You can use any slim DVD drive with a 50-pin ATAPI IDE Interface Connector. You will probably want a DVD burner since the original drive was capable of burning DVDs. The drive I used to replace the HP drive is a LG Black IDE Super-multi Slim Notebook DVD Rewriter - OEM version.

Unplug the power cord from your HP laptop. Remove the laptop battery from the back of the computer. This will eliminate the chance of power damage to your computer

Ground yourself by touching a metal object or touch your screwdriver on the ground while touching part of the metal. Unscrew the DVD drive screw circled in the Step 2 photo. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver turn the screw counter-clockwise until it is completely loosened. You may need to flip the computer over to get the screw to fall out. Put the screw in a safe location for later.

Put a small pointed tip object (a paper clip will also work) into the drive release hole on the face of the DVD drive. Use the hole to pull the drive out from the laptop body.

Remove the mounting bracket from the old DVD drive. There are two small Phillips head screws that need to be removed by turning them counterclockwise. Match the bracket up with the holes on the side opposite of the connection port. Using the two screws you just removed, secure the mounting bracket to the new DVD drive by tightening them in the clockwise direction.
Remove the original HP DVD drive face plate from the old drive. It can be removed by working it back and forth to loosen the faceplate. Once it is loose you should be able to pull the faceplate off.

Do the same for the new drive. Once the DVD faceplate is off, match the tabs of the original HP faceplate up and press in until it clicks into place

The new drive is now ready to install into the HP DV6000 series laptop. There is no need to hook up IDE cables and power cables. The new drive can simply be slid into the HP laptop.

Find the screw from Step 3. Make sure the DVD drive is pressed in all the way. Install the small Phillips head screw in the back of the laptop and tighten by turning clockwise.

DVD/CD Combo drive, removal/installation.

I believe that this model has a built in drive the only way to remove it is to remove cover to the laptop. If the drive isn't working go into hardware profiles right hand click on the drive and select remove. This will remove it from windows then when you restart windows should find the drive and install the drivers. Make sure you have the software drivers before you do this.

Thanks J
