The clicking noise is a protection circuit that prevents the TV from switching on when a fault is detected.

That means that there is a short, a bad solder joint, or a bad component inside the TV, usually any good technician is able to find out at least the nature of the fault. Often this jobs must be done at a repair shop, as testing may take time, probably your technician was just in a hurry.

All you can try at home is leaving tv unplugged for a couple of hours, this drains power from the set , and fix some problem.
If it does not work send it to a repair shop.

TV will not turn on

Hi, If the clicking noise is metallic, could be a relay switching on/off. What's curious is that once powered on by remote, apparently the clicking doesn't affect the TV, meaning it continuously work. The relay is suppose to turn on or off a function of the TV and apparently it is trying to but there is not such effect since the TV, as I understand from your post, works. The relay can be for the degaussing coil, power supply, over voltage protection. Since this involve a little diagnosis of the electronics, soldering and probably a minor component replacement, an on-site service/repair man would be your best bet. Even if it were a nuisance/minor repair, you can at least get the clicking noise out. Other than you get to get a checkup of the TV and diagnosis of what caused/started the clicking sound in the first place. Hope this be of help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

My Magnavox plasma screen tv, model number: 42MF237S/37 makes a clicking sound when I try to turn it on. No sounds, no picture, just the clicking noise. Things I have tried so far: 1) Turning the TV off...

You either have a cold solder joint in your horizontal deflection circuits or your or in your horizontal output circuit. please be careful due to the fly-back transformer still holds power even unplugged until you discharge it.( ground it out). Hope this helps.

Tv just makes clicking noise and doesn't turn on

I had the same problem. The power board for the on-off had to be replaced. The set is only 11 months old.

My tv turns off by itself and makes a clicking noise

Most likely it has some bad capacitors in the power supply. Flat--panel sets are VERY hard on capacitors, due to the fact that the "rising heat' from the set "cooks" the caps and they fail VERY early.

My phillips 50'' plasma tv is making a clicking noise like it is turning on but does not come on and continues to make the clicking noise. Any comments on what the problem could be?

sounds like its the CCFL trying to come back on, either that or like on my sony Bravia when it selects input sources it makes a clicking sound as well.
1) is got a bad CCFL
2) it has a bad psu
3) if its under warranty take it back

When you turn 'on' the tv...the tv continuously 'clicks'

The clicking noise is caused by the relays on the power supply board trying to power up the system. Your TV has detected a problem that's causing the power supply to shutdown. Someone knowledgeable in electronics can track down the problem. The SOURCE of the problem could be another board other the power supply.
