Shutter will not open/close (Disengaged from motor - "flopping" loose)
Hello FixYa's! Bertman here; Nicetameetcha!
My HC3 is sickly - I bumped it on wood (not even hard) and the front shutters came loose and just "flop around". When I turn on the camera, I can hear the motors trying to open the shutters, then it tells me I can't record because "Lens cover not fully open. Turn power off then on." This of course does nothing to fix it - the shutters are mechanically disengaged from the motor that opens them.
The unit is otherwise working perfectly. I want to open it myself if I knew how to unscrew the front and get the shutters reconnected. (It seems the "jumped the track" and just need to be re-set.) What say ye?
Thanks!
- Bert :o)

Well, replacement of the shutter unit (lens barrier)instead of the repair seems more realistic...

there is a shape on the side of the key that fits in the bottom part. If you line up the bump with the slot the right way, and turn it, the shutter will open
Could be
Exhaust pipe holder broken and pipe flopping when you hit a bump
Muffler too close to frame
Gas tank strap broken
Broken or shot shock absorber
Broken spring
With out being able see and hear it these are only suggestions.
Sounds like the main drive chain is worn and possibly slipping; it will flop a bit when hitting a bump.
If your drive chain is loose or the sprockets are worn this can happen also. If it is a belt drive check to see if the belt cogs (teeth) have good sharp corners, this could be slipping too.
WORST case scenario...worn bearings on the clutch end of the main shaft flopping about and slightly disengaging the main drive inside the clutch/ tranny box.

Main Cause The shutter open sensor (PI5) is faulty. The safety area detecting switch
(MS3) is faulty. The shutter closed detecting switch (MS4) is faulty. The
No. 2 feed motor (M8) is faulty. The finisher controller PCB is faulty.
Mode of
Detection
0001 The shutter closed detecting switch does not turn on when the No.
2 feed motor has been rotated CCW for 1 sec or more.
0002 The shutter open sensor does not turn on when the No. 2 feed motor
has been rotated CCW for 1 sec.
0003 While the tray lift motor is in operation, the shutter closed detecting
switch is found to be off when the tray 1/2 is at OFF position
of the safety area detecting switch.
You press the shutter once and that opens the shutter (you do your light painting) then you press the shutter a second time to close the shutter.
When you press the shutter the first time and look in the view finder it will be dark . this is because the mirror has locked its self up while doing the exposure (this is normal) Once you click the shutter a second time the mirror will flop down and you will be able to see threw the viewfinder again.
Hey there.
That indicates that the color toner carousel is not working
correctly. This could be caused by an obstruction in
the carousel path, such as a loose shutter or
disengaged toner cartridge.
Open the carousel door and waste toner tray.
Look for an obstruction, such as a toner
cartridge shutter catching on the waste toner
tray. Verify the toner lock lever is fully locked. If
the message does not clear after closing the
doors, turn the printer off and on to reset the
printer.
Well, replacement of the shutter unit (lens barrier)instead of the repair seems more realistic... The part number is: 178739811
