Another microwave stopped heating

I too am facing the same problem; my microwave stopped heating the food, water, etc. Does anyone know how to actually diagnose if it is actually a magnetron tube problem, please advise.

Thanks, icansurf. I could find information on the microwave works but none on how to tell if the magnetron is faulty just looking at the outset. My microwave does not buzz and sounds just like it used to even now except no heating! So I can't be sure if its the HV Diode.

    Oh hey icansurf,
Thanks a lot. I think I wasn't reading properly. On applicanceguru.com it is mentioned that it can be due to a circuit board or any high voltage component or a switch failure. Let's see; the technician would be here tomorrow from GE to see it. I will keep u posted on how it went.

Micro doesn't heat. All other controls appear to work. Is there a quick way to isolate the magnetron? Is the fuse only for the magnetron?

My microwave does not heat anything. Not sure if it is a magnetron or something different. Cannot open or find the service manual.

The microwave is not heating the food.

When it did heat food before and you used the same settings now, the microwave must be defect.
But before you are sure, put a cup with water in the micro and try to heat that.
Dry food can't be heated in a microwave. There must be some moist in the food if you want to heat it in the microwave.

My GE spacemaker microwave doesn't heat up foods. There is a slight bit of heat generated but not much. All timers, lights, etc. work normal. It is a GE model jvm1440. It is about 3 years old. The problem...

IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS RANGING FROM DIODES TO CAPACITORS TO YOUR MAGNATRON OR THERMOSTAST OR TRANSFORMERS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THIS MICROWAVE. YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GETTING YOURSELF A DIFFERENT ONE.

Everything works...Except for actually heating the food

It has a bad magnetron. This is the tube that provides the microwaves to heat the food. Not too easy to replace yourself but it can be done. Cost of magnetron is probably less than $50 or $60.

Self start when door closes

if electronic control, one of two things come to mind. 1)your toutch pad is defective.replace it. 2)you electronic board has a leaky component.not very likly though. believe it or not, ive seen it start before by itself then i noticed a large quantity of bugs inside the glass which i realised triggered the microwave 0ff.
