The vertical deflection is overdriving at the top of the screen causing horizontal lines superimposed on the top 4 or 5 inches that are a reflection of what should normally be at the top of the screen.

SOURCE: LOSS OF T.V. PICTURE

My television has sound but no picture. I can not program the television because I can not see the screen menu. I also have tried to change the antennae but this does nothing to the picture's reception.

Do you have any ideas to correct this problem. There is no warranty.

SOURCE: 20 INCH TOSHIBA DVD VCR COMBO, DVD KEEPS READING BUT NEVER DOES

I was having the same issue and I've been to several video stores to rent DVDs and 2 out of 3 rentals have the same affect where it is just 'reading' but even worse, it would play fine and then freeze up during the movie- very frustrating. Now, after 3 years of owning it, it died today. They just don't make them the way they used to :(

SOURCE: White lines accross top of screen on our 27 inch Toshiba,

My Toshiba required replacement of two of the vertical filters/capacitors. Doesn't take long and the parts are inexpensive, but requires a repairman.

I have a tv that has line going side to side

The line is horizontal but means no vertical deflection (set deflects picture from middle to top and bottom.

Either bad solder connections at vertical output chip or a bad part somewhere in that circuit.

My screen has one line going across the middle.

The problem is a vertical deflection issue, caused by bad connections on the vertical deflection ic, or needs to be replaced and one or two bad capacitors.

One line horizontal onscreen

This is well known problem with the Toshiba line, the problem is in the vertical deflection circuits, it causes the picture to collapse to a flat white line, the vertical output ic and two to three capacitors need to be replaced to correct the issue.

There is a line down the center of the screen

whether the line-shaped vertical or horizontal? if it appears a horizontal line on your side, it signifies the vertical rays do not exit the screen or your TV vertical part is not working. damage can be caused by IC Vertical, or in the vertical deflection coil yoke.dan if a line that appears is from top to bottom that indicates the horizontal section is not working, usually there is a problem of the deflection yoke is not connected or defective.

Where are the vertical deflection caps located

Check C421, C427 and C429. These capacitors are located nearby IC401. IC401 is mounted on a heatsink and has the following markings on the body LA78041

I have a three year old model pvc2542 tv/vcr combo the picture is just a line in the center of the screen

Bad vertical deflection circuit, unless you have a bad connection (bang on set to set it it fills out for a second) . you will need components replaced such as the IC, capacitors possibly a fuse from the power source to the vertical IC.
If its a bad connection soldering the IC pins is not to hard if you are OK with taking it apart yourself.

Toshiba 32A14 horizontal line

This symptom is characterized by a thin horizontal line in the middle of the screen. This symptom is caused by the absence of the deflection sawtooth current in the horizontal deflection coil.
The trouble is easily isolated by a continuity test and by checking the most likely defective components such as A)open vertical linearity compensation transformer, B) open capacitor and C) open horizontal deflection coil.
Be sure to decrease the brightness first before trouble-shooting if the line is very bright,as it burn the phosphor screen..

Hope this may help;

Regards,
