Here is all I know about Compaq Presario wireless switches. Sorry, but w/o a model I can't be more specific.
Compaq Presario, Model not specified - Button on the Back
C304NR - Button on upper right above keyboard deck, Blue is enabled
CQ Series - Button above the keyboard (antenna icon on button) next to power.
** CQ50-107NR (Conflicting reports on this model show:
Button above keyboard (antenna icon on button) next to power or lighted button below space bar that turns the touch pad on/off.
M2000 - Button above the keyboard (antenna icon on button)
Check the sides of your laptop for a switch...

I have the same problem and have contacted HP several times to find out where the wireless switch is located or how to access it through the fn keys. HP stubbornly refuses to tell me this information unless I renew my warranty. Given the information, the fix can be made. I had the same problem with a Dell and with ATT Tech Support was able to resolve the problem, but they couldn't resolve the same problem with my Presario because apparently you need to access the wireless switch.
