I keep losing the display on front and the batteries are dead all the time. This is ocurrring in a weeks time and the radio is plugged in and receiving power.
I'm having the same problem with my Bose radio. No display in the front while it is plugged in to outlet. Tried other working outlets and still no display. Changed the battery but still no display. Sent the radio/cd back to Bose for repair. It worked for a month and is now dead again. Please help!!I'm having the same problem with my Bose radio. Re: Bose Wave Radio
Unfortunately Bose will not release their schematics or parts lists,
effectively giving them a monopoly on repairs. Their web site,
www.bose.com, offers to repair most Wave radios for $100 or to give
owners of broken sets a $200 allowance towards the purchase of a new
Wave. Before spending the big bucks though, you might want to check
out the new HD radios. Better sound and a MUCH lower price.

I have the exact same AWR1-1W model for repair last week. I am assuming you have a meter and you also have soldering skills here.
You might want to check the Q4 transistor (2SC3792) for a short on the two outide pins. With the power disconnected, measure with a multimeter the resistance between the two outside pins of the Q4 transistor. If you measure anything between 0-3 ohms it is shorted. Replace this part with a similar part or you could replace it with the new Bose recommended part - 2SD438F-MP-E but it is very hard to obtain. I have used an 2SC2655 instead and had no problems so far with the radio. This radio also came in totally dead with no display nor the radio working.
open unit up and check A/C FUSE located near where the A/C plug/wire is connected to radio!
If fuse is bad it will measure an OPEN ]---- ----[
a GOOD FUSE will measure a SHORT ]-----------[

You didn't mention which model of the Wave Radio you have but since you have a 9V battery it narrows it down to a couple of models. This could be the battery causing the display to act strangely. If the radio still works audio-wise, the following should fix the display:
The older model wave radios have either a 9v or 3 AA batteries (accessible from the bottom). Remove any battery, and reset the system by unplugging the power cord for about 40 seconds. Plug it back in without the battery attached.
If the problem goes away- replace the battery or batteries. (which is only there to hold the clock time, presets etc when not plugged in)
BTW- you'll have to set the clock, alarm, presets etc after this procedure.
If the problem doesn't go away, call Bose. I think they can repair this for $99 and/or offer a new one as a trade-in discounted.
There's a line fuse inside the radio, mounted on a PC board. CAUTION: disconnect the set from power before opening the case or poking around inside. The fuse could be bad, but these sets are notorious for losing the power transformer. If the fuse is ok then you are looking at a $100 repair fee from Bose. You might want to check out the new HD radios -- better sound, MUCH lower price.
