You will need to disable any virus protection and spyware protection. You can leave the firewall up.(unless it doesn't work. try it with the firewall off.)
Does the printer work on another machine? Does another printer work on your laptop.
Let me know what happens. Vista is new so are the questions.
Thanks & Good Luck

You can download the Lexmark X1185 driver from the Lexmark website for free. Click on this link Lexmark X1185 Drivers. Select your operating system to download the driver. NOTE: Use Vista driver in Windows 7.
you need to go to the "lexmark.com website" and download the new "vista" driver, it was looking for XP, and they are two different programs, also you can go to "control panel", and Open scanners and Printers, and see if the vista "hardware wizard" picks it up, and installs it too, let me know if this helps, god bless......
hi... if u don't know the lexmark tech support #... its this: 1800 332 4120... or u can live chat online on support.lexmark.com
if u r the do it yourself type... go to www.lexmark.com. in the search box on top right corner type "x1185". click search. scroll downwards & click on download driver & select windows vista. before u start download check whether urs is vista 32 bit or 64 bit. right click on computer entry in start menu & click properties. check what it says there under operating system type: 32 bit or 64 bit. if its 64 bit... download vista_x64 driver from the lexmark site else select just vista. after download... comes the long process of installation which would take even more instructions. i think u can just call the tech support & it will be a first call resolution
Be sure to select the correct Windows Vista driver (there is one for Vista (x64) and one for Vista (which is the 32-bit version and the one you are most likely running on your PC)
Hope you find this information helpful in getting your printer to function correctly with your PC Kind regards and thanks for using the FixYa service
I have the same issues with a Lexmark printer, Lexmark printers are not very user friendly with Vista. What I did is create a dual boot with XP and installed the software for the printer there. If interested in that follow these instructions or contact lexmark support.
