Question about RCA DRC8295N DVD Recorder/VCR
I have done the reset, cleaning, ect... I also bought an exact same refurbished machine so I could finalize the recorded discs I did not finish up.. when I hit record (on both machines this happens) a msg says defect in disc is found the scheduled event was not recorded and this disc is beeing finalized to protect andy recordings on this disc (which there are none since it is totally balnk). I have purchased 3 different brand of recordable discs.. all have the msg pop up- here's the really strange thing when the old unit went out I had 6 discs that each had 1 movie recorde on them when I put them in the 2nd (refurbished) unit it was able to record on those discs. It will not record from VHS to DVD either same msg shows up, Yes I have checked & souble checked the connections, the first DVD recorder - recorded about 600 titles- so the connections r working did the same set up w/other machine. I am at a loss plz help
Just wanted to agree with hogfan. Have been having the same record problems that have been posted. Came to the same conclusion that 16X was not compatible . Was looking for software upgrade, but none to be found. Maxell is he only brand that I have found that will work in record mode.

Immathews is correct. the manufacturer's service department confirmed that this model can not utilize 16x and said there is no firmware, etc. fix for the problem

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE POSTING OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAD THE SAME THING GOING ON BUT I HAD SOME DVD-RW THAT WORKED FINE SO WAS ON THE RIGHT TRACK OF THE SPEED PROBLEM. I JUST RECIEVED MY 8X DVD I ORDERED FROM TIGERDIRECT.COM AND THEY WORKED JUST FINE. I HAD TO ORDER THE 500 PACK ($89.99) BUT FIGURE I WILL USE THEM BEFORE I WEAR OUT THE MACHINE. AND OF COURSE THEY WILL WORK IN A FASTER MACHINE ALSO. DANIEL HILL

I had the same problem and just figured it out about 5 minutes ago. I have been trying 16x discs. I guess it can only read 8x max dvd+r discs. Give that a try. The hardest part was finding 8x discs. I found some at K-mart on closeout, 15 for 6.00 plus tax. Good luck to you.
