When camera is on & in picture mode all I can see through the viewfinder & LCD screen is a blank screen. The type of mode & flash symbols appear but no picture. If I take a picture & then view it all I get is a blank image. Any help will be gratefull
I have the same camera & same problem- no images- just dark screen with the indicators showing. From what I've read, it could be problems with the glue holding the CCD sensor in place. Apparently, in hot, humid situations this glue is adversely affected. I am going to send mine to Nikon tomorrow for a free fix ( I hope! . . . going on a trip at end of Feb). Use the link in TALLGURI'S post to get the "Service Advisory Product Return Form". By the way, this is happening to many different brand cameras. I got this info from Photo Reporter Vol.13, No, 19, Nov 2005.

This is a digital camera; the problem is noted in a Nikon service bulletin and they fix it for free

The symptom you describe is caused by a stuck shutter inside your lens. When the shutter is stuck closed no light can reach the image sensor and the result is a black image on the screen and on photos. You can try GENTLY tapping the camera on a hard surface to free the stuck shutter, but be extremely cautious because this can easily further damage the camera. If that does not work you will have to get the unit serviced or replace it. Check with Nikon for recalls or service bulletins. You can find good repair services online as well. Thanks for the advice - have tried gently tapping the camera but to no avail - will keep trying - thankyou very much for the advice
I too have a 5700 and this is the 3rd time with the same black, blank screen issue. I can see all the settings and review pictures but nothing through the lens. I have sent back to Nikon for repair, the first time it was returned in the same condition so I sent back they repaired at no charge. Now I need to address the issue again, frustrating. My daughter has another Nikon, point and shot camera, same issue.
The view finder/monitor only shows white flickering lines and cannot see the object of the shot. Searching internet for solutions.
I am also having a couple of problems with my Coolpix 5700. I get intermittent lines running through the monitor when it's in the camera mode. Second, I do not get a good picture with the flash. It appears to be out of sync, that is, the aperture does not open at the instant of the flash. And thirdly, the camera does not focus correctly. I have been pleased with this camera until just recently. And I can't think of a thing that I could have done to the camera to make it act like it does. I have always taken very good care of it. It's almost like a little gremlin crawled into it when I was sleeping - Ha!! Yes, I would like to have Nikon fix this problem at no charge. Since this is a fairly recent problem, I have not taken it in for repair as of yet. Thanks for listening.
hi! i have the same problem with my coolpix 5700, if i turn my camera on the view finder display was all in the LCD but the image was just a blank black one, i try to get my memory card and try to see if their is an image on it that was taken, but..... still no image from frame 1.............many still blank black no images at all.
can you help me how to solve this problem? thank you very much.
Screen and viewfinder blank - will not show scenes or photo replay. All menu functions are visible in both screen and viewfinder. Need to find out what to do... have not yet sent to repair under the assumption that it may just be some settings or????
