Can't open document that I was working on
SOURCE: quarkxpress 6.5 installed in Vista: won't open:
Alas, your only solution is to upgrade to XP and treat Vista like Terminator 3, like it didn't happen. I'm even hearing people say that the latest version doesn't work well unless it's on an XP. I understand that Microsoft was going to address some of the vast incompatibility problems it had created with Vista, but until I see it, I won't believe it. XP is still the best OS going, in my mind. If I was just starting now, hell, I might even consider a Mac. I just have too much software for the PC, plus I still think it's a better OS. It's just that it's aging and Microsoft has shown it doesn't regard its customers as anything but dwebes who need protecting from themselves.

As time goes on software applications tend to change enough that an older version produced file is not forward compatible with a new version. For instance some of my MS Office files no longer can be opened by the latestr version of "Word", hence Microsoft issued a plug in that will allow you older "Doc " files to be read by the latest version of "Word", same thing holds tru for FLASH program, every time a new version of FLASH comes out, the older version can not be read by it.
You need a version of QuarkXpress that can read this doc, If you created the original document, the you can go to your version of QuarkXpress to open the document or if possible ask the originator of the document what version they used to create the document.

It
could be that your quark preferences have corrupted, I would go to your
users folder then go into the library folder, then the preferences
folder and then the quark folder within the quark folder there should be
a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move this to the trash (But do
not delete it yet). When you open quark next it will recreate the
preference file and hopefully that will sort it out. If this has corrected the problem you can then deleted the file in the trash. Please note that you will have to reset your preferences once you open Quark again.
Hope this helps.
