What is the plastic coil thing inside the refrigerator that the water filter attaches to. It look like there is dark stuff in it

While clean my refrigerator I noticed the plastic coil thing inside the fridge where the water filter connects. It looks like there is dark stuff inside of it? Is that normal? .

  • Yes I do also have a water filter. This coil thing is below it. There's no mention of cleaning it in the manual. Its a Kitchaid.

SOURCE: How to change the water filter on my Kitchenaid Superba fridge?

The details are on page 6 of this manual or I have pasted them below.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%202306982.pdf

Changing the Water Filter
1. Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille.
2. Pull the filter straight out.
3. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter.
IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your
refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.
4. Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and
turn the cap until it snaps into place.
NOTE: You can run the dispenser without a filter. Your water
will not be filtered. Simply insert the cap all of the way into the
base grille and rotate the cap until it is firmly in place.
5. Remove the protective covers from the O-rings.
6. Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop
back out when the filter is fully engaged.
7. Flush the water system. See “Water and Ice Dispensers.”

I have a GE refrigerator with ice and water dispenser. At times a stringy, slimy substance will pass through the water dispenser. I have changed filters, but it still happens . Any thoughts?

Inside the refrigerator is a coil of plastic tubing. It's purpose is to chill the water for the dispenser. The only way to clean this is to run a lot of water through it. I use a gallon container and fill it several times. If you get the same condition in your ice, then I'd install an external water filter in the water line behind the refrigerator.

Water Filter Frozen

Air blowing directly on things like a water bottle has frozen it solid ( in the REFRIGERATOR SIDE! -- Block airflow BUT... I think the problem is YOU NEED TO CLEAN ( blow out with air!...the ONLY WAY) YOUR CONDENSOR COILS ( in the back, outside...behind the cardboard cover nowadays) Your fan has to run too long ( because refrigeration is the "removal of heat"...this is what those coils do but they are insulated with dust!)...too long blowing to achieve the same temp result = Frozen Stuff

Model #3639761514 freezer ok, fridge between 42 and 59 degrees, already cleaned coils, black drain on back is dripping slightly onto ground

you have a blocked drain in the freezer and the water is leaking out the back.you have to remove the drain in the back and clean it out,a plastic tie works great for this, you can snake it through the drain and run hot water through it and do this in the sink, also tap it on the side of the sink to loosen up the muck in it,the stuff looks like a rotted grape pretty nasty stuff.then you have to remove the back inside wall of the freezer and with a hair dryer melt out all the ice, when you feel it's clean pour hot water down the drain hole under the evap coil and if it drains you're all set.unplug the machine while you're working on it,

I have a Goodman system and I have water leaking from the the small box next to my furnace. I have what looks like 3 lines running from unit to this box. One is a small copper one, another is a line...

the clear plastic hose is the condensate drain .. indeed they clog frequently .. lthat will allow water to overflow the pan that is desined to capture condensed water from the evaporator.. the plastic hose and the pipe it is attached to need to be cleaned out periodically ... allowing water to overflow can damage other things so its important to get the drain cleared .. however that drain has little to do with cooling efficiency .. your lack of cooling performance could be another problem ... sometimes the evaporator coil gets clogged (large finned unit behind where the overflow hose is attached inside furnace) .. that has to be cleaned once in a while but is tricky to do ... how often depends on how good the furnace air filter is and how often its changed ... as the evaporator becomes clogged with dust the cooling efficiency goes down .. same with the outdoor unit ... you have to wash out leaves and such periodically from the condenser coils .... if every thing is clean but the cooling efficiency is still low then have the unit checked for refrigerrant pressure .. it could be low .. of course make sure the furnace filter is not clogged ... also for cooling make sure all of the registers are open ... closing some can reduce overall efficiency ... make sure the outdoor unit fan is working properly ..

You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 torx screws underneath. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off the excess water from the hose you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a bunch of towels or a good big plastic bag to collect water. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in carefully.

Next: You can use Affresh to clean your front loader. Deposits of soap and other such things can be stuck around the inside tub of your washer. Try this product, it works great on all front loaders. Use hot water with the Affresh pellet with no clothes and run the machine through a cycle. Also helps with any stagnant water smells. Have you cleaned out your pump lately. Put the pellet inside the machine, not in the soap dispenser.
Pl give me a good rating for the free help, thanks.

Not cooling

If it's clicking on and off like you say, replace the compressor start relay device and overload protector. These are located directly on the side of the compressor, usually contained within a dark plastic cover.

Clothes come out soaking wet seams like it doesn't spin out the w

There are 3 possible places to look for filters as each machine is made differently –
1 If machine has a square flap fitted on the front filter maybe located behind this.

2 It could be located behind the front lower kick panel (remove panel to see).
3 Located inside the sump hose, this is the hose that is attached to the bottom of the
main tub.

Try this:
The filter on your pump is probably clogged with lint and stuff. You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 torx screws underneath. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off the excess water from the drain pipe you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a good plastic bag to collect water. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in carefully. Check your pump too.

On some models the filter is located ‘inside’ the big hose from the bottom of the tub. This takes more time to clean.

The water and ice tases and smells bad. New coil and filter.

Replace the water supply line with plastic tubing or copper. Do not use the braided metal or vinyl line as they will cause an odor problem.
