1) adjust the belt, see for broken or worn, and replace
2)see for brushroller obstruction, and clean it and repair
3) see if the brushroller without belt run smooth, otherwise repair and fix it.Lubricate.
4)See if the motor run without load( NOT belt+brushroller) very well. in negative case repair motor.
God bless you

SOURCE: spin brushes spin freely on

If this is a Hoover Steam vac, the turbine which drives the brushes is bad. If not a Hoover, then what is it, they are different, need brand and model number.

SOURCE: In Carpet setting, the vacuum brush does not spin

I put 3 turns of electrical tape around the area of the beater bar that meets the vacuum belt. This solved the problem short of replacing the beater bar.

SOURCE: The brush no longer spins when in the carpet

DC7s have two drivebelts that turn the brush bar - one connects the output of the motor to the clutch, the other connects the clutch to the brush bar.
You can check the latter simply by removing the sole plate and looking.
Unfortunately the other belt is hidden under a plastic cover, so you cant see if it is okay or not without some dismantling. This cover is not easy to remove and requires a Torx driver to under the securing screws.
If, after removing the cover, the other belt is okay, then you have a faulty clutch.
New clutches are available on eBay reasonably cheaply, but again good tools and DIY skills are required.
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some excellent info on dismantling and repairing a DC 07, but unless you have access to such tools, and feel confident to tackle it, it's probably time to call Dyson or a Vacuum repairer.

My dryson dc40 beater bar will not spin and there is no suction

The brush bar motor or one of the switches may be defective. If the brush is not spinning it will not pick up anything from carpet leading many to think it has no suction. Feel for suction down by the brush bar. If you have no suction it may have a clog or need new filters. Make sure the changeover valve that switches suction from floor to tools is working properly.

Brush bar not working on U87-VU-PF. How can I fix it

Removing the brush bar from the machine will allow you to clean both ends of the brush bar itself, and replace the belt a swell. Another, easier possibility is that the brush adjustment is set too low for your carpet pile height. In this case, the brush cannot spin.

The beater brush will no longer drive under a load on short pile carpet

Have you tried changing the height adjustment? There should be a knob or lever that allows you to adjust the height of the beater brush to accommodate different carpet lengths. Even with a new belt, the brush will not spin if the height is too low. Try adjusting it all the way up, then while it is running, adjust it down until there is some resistance. The beater brush should just barely scrape the top of your carpet.

Just bought a DC33. Multi-floor.It is very hard to push on the carpeting. It is fine on the wood floors. Is there any way to adjust it higher for the carpeting. It is dense carpet not high

There are no floor settings for this unit. Since the brush is spinning, it will create more resistance when running over the carpet.

This sounds like a belt issue to me. The belt usually runs from a drive shaft to the rotating beater bar / brush. Both the drive shaft and beater bar / brush that are contact with the belt must be clean. Oils, etc. can interfere with the grip on the belt. If the belt is squealing for very long, the drive shaft can damage the belt. make sure you're using the correct belt - and have all the parts in their right places. Recheck your work and provide the vacuum make and model if you're unable to get it working properly.

Our DC41 is impossible to push on carpet. Is there an adjustment to do? Almost like there is too much suction.

See if the following information can help.

CARPETS OR HARD FLOORS

• The brush bar will always default to 'ON' (spinning) each time you switch the

appliance 'ON' and recline it for cleaning.

• The brush bar will not rotate when the appliance is upright.

• To switch the brush bar 'OFF' (e.g. for delicate rugs and hard floors):

- switch the appliance 'ON'

- recline the appliance

- press the brush bar 'ON/OFF' button - the brush bar will stop spinning.

• The brush bar will automatically stop if it becomes obstructed. See 'Brush bar -

clearing obstructions'.

• Before vacuuming your flooring, rugs and carpets, check the manufacturer's

recommended cleaning instructions.

• Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used when vacuuming. If this

happens, we recommend vacuuming in 'hard floor' mode and consulting with

the flooring manufacturer.

• The brush bar on the appliance may damage some carpet types. If you are
unsure, turn 'OFF' the brush bar.

Carpet brush does not work on dc26

With this model, the most likely cause is that the brush has become clogged and won't spin freely. Unplug the unit and test spinning the brush bar by hand. If you really can't get spin, follow instructions like these (
Dyson DC26 DC35 DC36 DC38 DC44 DC45 DC47 Clearing the brush bar Official... that are straight from Dyson). Make sure you get the very ends fiber-free. It should spin better now.

Good Luck!

Height Adjustment on Hoover Wind Tunnel doesn't seem to do the job.

You changed the belt that drives the brushroll, it is a flat stretch belt. The V belt also should be replaced every year or two max. It will not be stretched out like the flat belt but with normal use the side of the v will of wear off and the belt will be a little thinner which can cause it to slip on the pulley. The V belt drives the transmission. The flat belt goes from the transmission to drive the brushroll. The burning smell could come from the V belt if it's slipping real bad.

On hoover steam carpet cleaner, the brushes do not rotate on low or high settings.

Follow these steps if the Brushes Fail to Spin
•If the brushes on your Hoover carpet cleaner fail to spin, there may be a problem---some sort of blockage---with the suction or with the belt that turns the brushes.
Turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and inspect the brush area. Debris, strings, or pet hair may be tangled in the rollers, keeping them from turning. Use a pair of scissors to cut away any obstructions in this area. Flip the Hoover carpet cleaner back over, and turn it on to see if cleaning the rollers has solved the problem.
To check the belt, turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and remove the bottom plate screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Investigate the belt area to see if it is broken or has somehow slipped off. If it is broken, you can order a part from Hoover.com or from many of the other online parts stores.
When the belt arrives, simply slide it on in place of the broken belt, reattach the bottom plate and turn the Hoover carpet cleaner right-side up. Turn it on to test your solution.

Beater brush won't spin but belt is intact and ok. Brush is clean and spins freely by hand.

For your beater brush to spin, you have to meet two conditions:
1) the vacuum cleaner has to be reclined (put your foot on the front and pull back on the handle).
2) The clutch actuator (the dial where you switch between BEAR FLOORS and CARPETS needs to be set to CARPETS).

If the brushbar/beater bar still doesn't spin after that, call the Dyson helpline, they will assist you. If you are saying that the brushbar isn't spinning because it is not picking up any dirt, you may have a loose internal hose, a blockage in the machine or the bristles on the brushbar are worn. Call the Dyson helpline for assistance.
