Reads CD ut no not DVD's

Hi, I have a peculiar problem, I have a LG DVD-ROM 8080B, I used to read DVD's before after a gap of 3 years, I Inserted a DVD, and it does not work/read. But the main prolem is that it reads CDs but not DVD's, When I insert a DVD, the system gets stuck and it goes on reading. I have checked the drivers, Regional setting . etc. Buy still, it refuses to work. I hope I get a good solution to this peculiar problem.

There is no quick solution for this problem unless you consider buying a new internal drive quick solution. (They are pretty cheap now a days) It really sounds like your DVD lens is no longer working, which would cause no problems with reading of your CD's. Sorry for the bad news, but look on the bright side! You can upgrade to a lightscribe DVD burner!! :D:D (no more sharpies on the DVD/CD's you burn)

I'm trying to install a PC-DVD Game to my LG CD-ROM CRD-8521B, It plays CD's but wont play DVD's of any sort. Really need help...
The CD rom is limited to CD's. In order to read a DVD, you will need to install a DVD rom. My suggestion is to get an external DVD Burner - i just bought a Samsung slim external DVD burner that reads / writes CD's and DVD's.
You will have no luck ever reading a dvd in a cd rom.

My rom re ads cd but not reads dvd
DVD drives have two different pickups for CD and for DVD, If yours is reading one but not the other, the lens is fried. You'll have to get a new lens part or get a new drive. Considering a good dvd drive these days are about 25$ I would say forget about the lens, make a quick trip to your computer store or preferred online store and get a new one.

Try reinstalling your cd driver. You can download the driver from Lg web site under optical drives.

Dvd rom combo cannot read cds. I have an LG dvd rom combo which I buy as an external drive enclosed on external closure. Since i use it for intalling purposes i seldom use the drive. Intermitently it reads...
try to use with a CD cleaner and do a thorough cleaning - repeat several times. If doesn't help, you need to replace the drive. I experience that same kind of problem with 10 out of 50 computers even if the drive is not used always...some part or mechanism must be deteriorating.

u may find a dvd drive usb enclosure from ebay and then try ur dvd drive in that

but it is available in desktop dvd drives but laptop i am not sure if it is there on ebay but pls check it out
