Open Question

No connect, no dial tone

I got new replacement batteries for the phone since the technician who I contacted said the battery is no longer working. I charged it fully for 12 hours. But when I press PHONE, the display says: NO CONNECT instead of PHONE ON, and there is no dial tone, just a noise. I checked everything the VTECH FAQ/Troubleshooter suggested but nothing seemed to help. I can't contact VTECH tech support because I'm not in the US now. I wonder what could be causing this problem. I know it's not an interference because I have tried to install the phone away from all appliances, etc. that could cause interference. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Please email me [email protected] Thanks! -Maria

Hi,

I have provided a link below where you can find the manual for your phone.

I hope that should help you fix the issue you are facing. Will wait for the rating to know the result.

Thanks

On the handset the IN USE/LOW BATT LED are one and the same. If it is blinking during and after charging and you cannot dial out or hear a dial tone, replace the battery.

SOURCE: Phone not working

If the VTech is plugged into a different phone outlet than your touch-tone, then I know what your problem is. There are two wires that are hooked up inside the outlet box that run to the jack that your phone cord plugs into. One wire is for the "ring", the other one is for "tip". If these two wires are hooked-up backwards, it will cause you to have a dial tone whether you press any number buttons or not. Don't fret...it's an easy fix. If you pull the cover off of the outlet and reverse the wires meaning that if depending on which two are hooked up to the jack, whether it's the black and yellow pair, or the red and green pair, all you have to do is loosen the two screws that are securing the two wires that are going to the actual jack, and reverse them. Then just tighten the screws back up and replace the cover on your outlet. You should be ready to reach out and touch someone immediately! Hope this helps and have a great day!

SOURCE: I can't dial out from my handsets

Here is something to try:

Disconnect or unplug the power supply (the small black box that is plugged into the wall outlet) wait for 30 seconds and then plug it in again. Sometimes the power supply needs to reset itself. It worked for me.

Thanks,

If charger is good, you should look for replacement battery. Charger's condition might be diagnosed by any technician with a tester.

How do I reset my phone to reset to get back in range it says out of range anyone have instructions ?

Unfortunately, I do not have a manual for the GH-4102. However, most cordless phones get out of range messages at a few points: low handset battery, no power at the base or no dial tone at the base. Other possibilities are the phone base and handset lost the registration or one or the other isn't transmitting/receiving properly.

Things to try: unlpug the base power (from both the wall outlet and the phone) and phone line cord and remove the battery from each handset. Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the batteries and plug in the power and data connections. (Check when you unplug the base power adapter if it was warm; that indicates the unit was at least getting power at that point.) Recharge the handset batteries and then re-register the handsets, if needed.
Consider replacing the handset batteries if they are more than a year old (this includes the time that the phone may have been on a shelf after manufacturing). Try a new phone data cable (RJ11).

Next test your phone line and make sure that you have a dial tone. I like to use an old corded phone with the new phone cord for testing. If there is no dial tone, test the line at another jack. If there is still no dial tone, find your incoming phone line and open the service box. If you have a relatively new service, you will be able to plug your test phone into the service box and test there. If you can't test the line or there is no dial tone at the service box, contact your telephone company. They will test and fix outside problems for free.

If the problem is inside, look at all accessible wiring and make sure that the lines aren't damaged. If only one jack is bad, open the faceplate and fix any loose wires. There are two types of connections. The first holds the conductors under screws and the wire must be stripped back and secured. The other uses a keystone jack. The conductor wires are not stripped but a special tool punches the wires into place. You can find the punch-down tool at many hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. See http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx for a picture of the correct wiring for the jack.

If your phone line has a dial tone and the above fixes didn't work, contact the company and get the phone repaired if it is under warranty (usually 1 year). If it is out of warranty, then decide if it is worth repairing or if you should replace the unit.

I hope this helps.

Has new battery, but no dial-tone,

Replacing the battery reset the phone to the factory defaults, which means you'll have to restore the connection to the base in Menu-Setup

No dial tone

I would contact your phone provider. It could be a coinceidence that the dial tone stopped working.
DSL does not require dial tone to work.

GE portable phone model # 26928GE1-D No dial tone-installed new battery still no tone

That isn't a whole lot to work with. Get a working phone and take the cord out of the base of the GE and plug it into the working phone.
If the working phone gets a dial tone, look into the modular receptical on the GE base and see if the contact wires aren't out of place.
If you don't get a dial tone on the working phone, try changing the connection cord between the phone and the wall. Also look for the same problem in the wall receptical as discribed above for the GE base.
