S3842 uk FREEZES ON BOOT every time have to switch off. on 3rd or 4th attempt works fine. any new software that requires reboot - it does this without a problem. started 2 months ago with original Vista...

Upgrades are usually troublesome as they leave bits of the old OS in odd places. It is best to do a clean install.
Choose your OS, either Vista or Win7. XP will not work!
Always download the latest drivers for the OS you are using from hp.com or it will keep hanging and be unreliable.
Hope this helps.

My newer flat screen monitor went black but works fine when hooked up to another computer and I have an older monitor that I hooked up and the older one works fine...??

That sounds like a display/resolution setting problem on your PC. I doubt there is anything actually wrong with the PC or the monitor, since both work with different combinations, so its most likely just a setting.

Some monitors don't display anything when they get a signal/resolution that is not compatible with their displays. I would try changing the display settings on your computer with your old monitor, then switch monitors and see if your newer monitor works.

Here's how to adjust the display resolution:
If in XP, right-click on the desktop and go to Properties, and select the tab for display settings and adjust/lower the resolution. If in Vista/Win7 right-click the desktop and select Screen Resolution/Display Settings and adjust it there.

No sound upon installing E-MU 0404 pci card and driver

Hey ya'll.
I had the same problem with everything installed, icons on the screen etc...I took my stuff to my computer wizard and he came with the following solution which is:
Make sure that you have a Windows XP "SP2 or GREATER" this is the kicker.Go to the requirements sheet if you need more info.
Anyway I did that upgrade from SP1 to SP2 and it works like a charm with pristine sound.
Good luck fellows.

Blank screen using Vista x64 with Nvidia Forceware Drivers 8600GT

Most like the sound card you have is not compatible with Windows Vista. You need to check the manufacturers website to see if there is any patch for Windows Vista
