I have a LG 42LP1D 42 in. HDTV LCD Television. It has developed a darkening of large areas of the screen. These areas can be in rough quadrants or the top and/or bottom third of the screen. Sometimes their is a hissing sound as well. The problem is getting worse. It seems to go if the TV has been on for many hours and never seems to affect the middle section of the screen. The solution which sometimes works is to power off/on but this can take quite a number over an hour or more. It didn't seem to happen until the warranty ran out! The TV has a home theatre system, Xbox360 and Sky digital TV box attached, the shadowing occurs no matter what the input device or scart or HDMI. I have wiggled and reconnected all cables, the scart ones are gold and good quality but it definitely appears to be the TV itself and not the input type. Any advice/ideas warmly welcomed.many thanks

The unit is having a backlight failure.It is a manufacture defect.Call lg customer service,they are aware of the problem in certain sets.Be persistant.

The shadow have red or blue in colors mixes?Than ur LCD screeen is damage.If it have a very light shadow,move the tv around to West,East Northwest,Southeast might help.If it have magnetic field.
There is probably a firmware update on the LG website that should take care of this.Go to the downloads area and enter the model number for available updates.
