Question about Roper REX4634KQ Electric Dryer

Dryer won't start when pushing the start button

A few weeks ago my dryer started acting up. I would have to push the start button 2-3 times before it would finally start running and stay on. Now it won't start at all. When I push the start button it just makes a zzzzzzz sound like its stuck and won't start.

Also forgot to add it has been taking longer than normal to dry the clothes. I possibly thought that may be due to the moisture in our basement since its winter?

Bjsouth Most likely the problem with your dryer is bad motor. It is not repairable and has to be replaced. If you feel you can do it yourself, let me know and I'll help to buy new motor and provide you with instructions how to replace it. Gendos...post back

I have a Candy GOU218 when I push the start button it does start the dryer but as soon as I release my finger from the button it stops, It started doing it around a week ago so I had to push and hold

There are push to start circuits used for motors and then there are holding circuits that keep the unit running. This way the dryer stops if the circuit is open due to high temperature or end of the cycle. It seems as if the holding circuit (could be a rotary switch that stays closed while the dryer is running) or a holding circuit relay (stays closed until circuit is broken by the control) has failed.

When pushing the start button the dryer will come on for about 10 minutes and then stop. Then sometimes it doesnt come on at all

If it starts right back up after stopping there is an electrical problem maybe at the motor start switch. If you have to wait for an hour before it will start again then the problem might be that the motor needs to be cleaned of a lint build up.

Clothes Dryer won't stay on after switch is depressed.

some of them dryers have a switch other than the push button located behind the console. it also has an identical heat switch beside it. if that holding switch is bad it will not stay running. of the two identical switches the run switch is on the left. good kuck.

Dryer will not start

A dryer will not run because: belt broken, faulty timer, faulty door switch, failed start capacitor in the motor.

There are other reasons, here are a few for you to check out.
