The tube is bad and is very common on the Zeniths to show that symptom. They had a lot of bad CRT's back then.

Does not seem like a bad tube alone. Could also be that the Video output Transistors Supply Filter capacitor having dried out. It is a 100mfd 160V capacitor, which on replacement will improve the brightness of the immage. And yes, you could also try increasing the heater voltage (Filament Voltage)of the Pictuire tube, this will definitely increase brightness, but will reduce the life of the Picture tube. You gotta think - 10 year old TV, should I repair or exchange and get a new one???

SOURCE: picture is dark

sitnlisten - yes it does appear your pix tube is getting weak, but we may be able to turn up the flyback alittle to brighten up the picture. If you take the back off you will see the flyback-large black unit with a wire going to the round rubber cap on the back of the pix tube.Look at the flyback there are usually 2 adjusters one marked focus the other screen, just turn up the screen a little bit at a time.If you turn this up too much you will wind up with retrace lines on the screen. You may also want to check the pcboard ass'y for a sub bright adjust, and same thing small adjustments. If this don't help your pix tube may be too far gone.I hope this helps. cooltek Feb.1/08

I have sound but no picture. The screen is black

can you see any any menus or the volume bar or channel indicator?
Make sure all your audio and video cables are hooked up correctly to inputs on the TV and to the same set of hookups. For example all of the VCR cables hooked into video 1 and all of the DVD cables in video 2.
Also check that you haven't hooked up the video to the tv's output. Some sets output audio and/or video for external devices such as recording setups or home theater sound systems.

My Zenith VCR is not working with the digital converter box

When the VCR is "off" the converter signal should go right through the box, which you say it does. Then, when you turn the VCR "on" the picture disappears. That, so far, how it should be. To get your picture back while the VCR is "on" you must set the VCR to "receive" channel 3, and use your new converter box to change channels...accordianman

Convertor box and Sony Wega with PIP (2 Tuners) and new Digital DVR/VCR

I wonder if the RF interference from the digital tuner. That box will only allow ouput either through the coax or the AV ports. If you do both you will not get a picture.

If you switch them you have to tell the box what your using for output by going through the setup process.

Is the Zenith 901 converter box for your cable TV.

Zenith Z27X22D Service Menu Codes needed

significant vertical overscan. It is such that it's impossible to read crawls and such at the bottom of the screen. I think this problem is a tv problem. it is due to vertical section. please change electrolytic capacitor in vertical output section. it will be ok. it is common problem can be fixed at home & very simple.
