Hi just read your posting.Sounds like the door lock switch is faulty.Do you get any error codes on the display?Check the door latch that is attached to the door.It is the little hook that latches into the door lock switch. The tension on the hook should be quite firm. Please reply with answers to the question and the condition of the door latch.Looking forward to your reply.

Be sure to remove the pin catcher assembly, at the bottom front right of the machine. Usually a small door at lower right side. Tip machine back and unscrew the large handle and remove to clean.

SOURCE: LG Front Loader made a bang noise.

Door Eventually Opened. Checked all components and found that a thyristor on the main PCB had blown up. The main board is all encased in a epoxy resin so I am forced to buy a complete new unit instead of fixing it. The thyristor costs a couple of bucks but the complete board costs heaps. Who ever designed the system like this must have been in cahoots with the parts supply section. They obviuosly made sure of their future trade.

SOURCE: LG WD-8050FH LOUD noice when spinning & 'funny' burning smell!!

I had the same symptoms and almost dismantled the whole machine to locate the root of the cause. The issue was one of the 3 arms of the spider (like a 3 spoked wheel that connects to the rear of the drum and holds it in place and provides the drive shaft to through to the motor at the rear), had snapped after weakening from corrosion due to undissolved washing powder building up in the grooves.
To prevent this, do a hot wash every few weeks to dissolve the powder, don't think your saving the environment by using only cold washes, this should be in every washing machine manual to save the environment from waste from un-economically repairable appliances.
The burning smell was the unbalanced drum leaning heavily on the rubber shroud on the front between the drum and the outer casing. The replacement spider part was only about AU$60-80.

To check if this is the problem you may be able to tell by opening the door, and reaching in from the front with your palm up about a hand distance till you go past the rubber shroud and just touch the stainless steel drum. Grip it gently with your four fingers and pull towards the front (to you) about 1cm or two, with about as much force you would need to open the machine's door. Rotate the drum approx one third of a rotation and repeat, do this 3 times and you should feel one point give more than the others.
If no luck try again in sixths of a rotation, you can gauge the distance by the 3 plastic agitators attached on the inside wall of the drum.

Note: get a price on labour first to replace the spider, as this will be probably more than half way to a new machine, and then the cost of the part, and the call-out fee if you can't get it into a service centre.

What's the point of having a long lasting stainless steel drum when the key part that connects the drum to the motor is a weak cast iron / alloy part.
Ask your local service person what units have quality parts before buying a new machine.

ps: the loud noise is probably the cracked arm rubbing or the unbalanced drum hitting the sides and making the machine jump.

Hope this all helps!

WD-8050FH, LG Intellowasher washing machine, front door gasket is twisted. What is the likely cause?

Broken spyder. The three arm hub that attaches to the inner tub. It is replaceable. Open door and wiggle inner tub. If it moves inside of outer tub, that's a sure sign.

Top loader door wont open

Something has caused the washer to not release the door. Is there an error code that is flashing (FE?). A locked door can be due to too much water in the basket, suds causing false water detection (should be using HE), or perhaps the drain is clogged.

If you are sure that the water is not going to spill out on floor, then you might be able to get door open by unplugging the unit and waiting a few minutes (mine took an hour) for the electric lock to release.

Bleach/Fabric softner dispenser full of water after wash

I cannot help you solve your problem with your Frigidaire, however DO NOT buy an LG washer unless you happen to be intimately involved with an LG employee!!

I purchase a $1200 LG washer 3 years ago. Until this year it worked very well. Then the bearing in the stator motor blew. This, mind you, is *still* under warrantee but I have been unable, even with the dubious help of LG, to get one of their "authorized" repairmen to come to my house and fix it. True, I live in a rural area, but it isn't like I'm hundreds of miles from any of the three repair services they named. Apparently LG doesn't pay them well for warrantee repairs because they all wanted more money and refused the work!

I am going to turn all of the information and communications I have had with LG (by email thank goodness!) to my State's Attorney's Office.

Good luck in getting this repaired.

My washing machine door wont open

Sorry for VERY late solution. I have an LG front loader machine and it has just broken. While surfing the internet, I found your blog. LG front loaders have a weak door handle, that breaks after a few years of operation. All the LG models seem to be the same. Replacement door handles are relatively inexpensive and readily available. To open your STUCK door, I would use a thin butter knife....slide the butter knife between the door and the frame of the machine until you hit the metal latch. Push the latch towards the centre of the machine and open the door.In the interim until you can get it fixed, this workaround method will work, enabling you to continue washing.Hopefully LG will make future models door handles out of cast, or something stronger!
