Rear projection toshiba picture and color too dark
I have had this situation with this tv once before and i really didn't catch it until this time. i heat my home with a propane stove and it went crazy one night and smoked up my house i noticed the tv picture kept getting darker and noticed the heater flame too high. i pulled off the front cover and guess i knocked off some soot or something as the picture got better but not like it was. i had this same problem fixed under warranty almost a year ago and i cannot for the life of me think of what was replaced. i just wonder if there is some part i could use some compressed air and spray it maybe clean off the bulb?...

Re:
Clean the GLASS mirror with glass cleaner, clean the lenses with a soft DRY T-Shirt type material cloth, clean the screens with same DRY Cloth very gently. The heat created by the tv goes up and out depositing dust/dirt/soot/anything airborn on the optical path.

there are in the older rear projection sets lens for those that do not use a lamp for a light source.
In the older sets there are three large black lens that can be seen and reached with the rear cover off---if there clean them as they are the light source in those sets and if dusty picture will look dull and darker than it once did.
The colors seperating is a convergence problem, as far as being dim this may be related but the TV likely needs service adjustments. convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html
Go into the tv menu and select the Preferences menu and set your picutre preference from Theater to Normal. The TV is currently in Theater mode, wich is for viewing with no lights on in the room. Switching it to normal lightens the pictue a lot.
Normal color picture is composed with 3 colors R-G-B (Red-Green-Blue). Picture turns Red means: Missing Green and Blue colors (many reasons: bad contacts, projector tubes dead, and other...). Try to give some "tabs" to diagnose ... I don't know what is the type of your Projection TV, how long you owned it, to have more idea.
this is what convergance looks like; http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm
if pix is dark their is 6 adjustments knobs in the front of the tv under the screen and behind the plastic cover. the top three are the brightness bottom three is focus.
