I have an Acer Aspire 3000. I got it for my graduation about a year and a half ago. About six months after I got it the power cord seemed to stop working. It wouldn't charge the battery at all and it would eventually run out and I wouldn't be able to use the computer until all of a sudden it started to charge again. I went to the place where I purchased it, they tested the power cord out and said that that was the problem. I bought a new generic power cord (a Kensington which sells different "tips" to plug into your specific computer). It worked fine. However, the problem has persisted. I had to buy a new tip two times and each time they broke. I just bought a new one and it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm thinking that the problem can't be the power cord because it wouldn't break down four times. Could the problem be the battery? Or may there be something wrong with my computer? If so, what?
The DC- Jack is broken. Have it replaced

I agree going through this many AC power adaptor jacks seems excessive. Either it?s a bad design, you?re real rough on equipment or perhaps the tip isn?t the problem. If you?re having the same problem again take it to a more tech oriented shop and have them test the AC adaptor AND the PC socket the tip plugs into. What may be happening is their may be a bad connection or an outright defective socket, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn?t. If you test the AC power adaptor and you know its good you may be able to test this theory on your own by plugging the AC adaptor in and wiggling the jack in the socket to see if you can get the charge LED to go on and off. Its not too uncommon for these power sockets to go bad, unfortunately replacing them requires a major disassembly of the laptop.
