Provided there is no hardware problems, this issue is fairly easy to resolve.
- Completely shutdown the system
- Unplug power to the cable modem.
- Wait 3 minutes (This allows the temp memory of the cable modem to scrub)
- power on the cable modem, let it reset (Takes about a minute)
- boot the system.
Normally this will force the cable modem to renew the MAC address of the device connected and give you a valid IP address.
If you still have an APIPA address, try right clicking the local area connection ICON and click REPAIR
If still no connection, reboot computer in safe mode w/networking and try again. If you get a connection then the issue is software (Firewall, Virus, Malware)
If you still are not getting a valid IP address, check your cabling and connection (Replace cable with a known good one if available) or try a different network card.
