Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TR517 Camcorder

1 Answer

Partial static in playback and record even after head cleaning

My Sony TR517 showed signs of dirty heads, so I ran a cleaning cassette several times and even meticulously checked and cleaned the drum but it still shows partial static in both record and playback (sort of like a VCR with the tracking not adjusted). Once in a while, in the record mode, it gives an error message of C--.-- I forget which numbers, and with the transport still moving, shows a message in the viewfinder of "cleaning cassette." This message stops if I press the pause button, and resumes normal operation again, still with the "tracking" looking static. Any suggestions?

How do I eliminate droput of audio/video upon playback?

If it is an old tape which has been used before, there may be creases caused where the pinch wheel pressed against the roller. Try again with a brand new tape. If this is not the issue, he a service is called for.

Won't playback. acts like it's locked up.

This may be corrected by fast-forwarding the tape for a few seconds and then rewinding it back to the point where the issue first started. However, if the issue continues, this could be a sign that the video heads are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use a Sony MiniDV head-cleaning cassette (DVM-12CLD) to clean the video heads.
If the movie continues to stop at the same point even after cleaning the video heads, this could be an indication that there is a problem with the recording on the cassette tape. If this is the case, the data on that portion of the tape cannot be recovered.
NOTES:
  • It is recommended that a high-quality Sony MiniDV tape be used for recording.

Hi, i have a sony z1...

Hi,
I assume that you can see live view to record on mini dv cassette but can't see recorded image in playback.

Let me know when you playback mini dv cassette, does time counter run time intervals or stays blank on LCD / eye finder?

If this happens, you have dirty / clogged video heads in camera and need to use good quality mini dv head cleaning cassette to clean heads. This will resolve problem.

Need further help, let me know please.
Thank you.

Choppy recording and playback

If the heads become dirty, “NEED HEAD
CLEANING” appears during recording. During
playback, moreover, the following symptoms
appear.
≥Mosaic-like noise appears partially or the
sound is interrupted.
≥Black or blue mosaic-like horizontal stripes
appear.

When normal playback cannot be performed
even after the head cleaning
One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.
≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
cassette.
≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)

Samsung SC-D107 digital camcorder

The lines you see in recording and playback are from dirty heads, most likely. Purchase a Mini_DV head cleaning cassette and use it following the directions on the package. This should clear up your problem. You may have to use the cassette several times in succession to get the heads clean.
