Craftsman garagedor opener

I have had my garage door opener for a couple of years and has worked fine. Lately it has started to loose power after I try to open the door. Usually it will come back on. today it will no longer open the door. It will start and then shut down. any suggestions?

Remove the cover from the motor housing and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear and will be obvious if it is bad.

SOURCE: Craftsman Garage Door Opener Won't Open

When mine did this, it was because the nylon gears that drive the chain had stripped. My wife had to live without the opener for a week or more, but I was able to find a new gear kit online and replace the damaged gears. It wasn't difficult.
The other option is to buy a new opener.

SOURCE: keypad garage door opener will not operate

what keypad are you using with new opener? Frequency has changed. can't use old one. you probably never needed to change things; just needed to follow proper coding procedures.

Well sounds like its a pressure setting. you said you open the door by hand? Was it easy to do? Ask your self this can a 15 year old kid open it and close it? If so then it sounds like its a presure setting There should be two blue slots on your opener with numbers 1-9 says up and down force. Turn the up force towards the bigger number. Just a little bit. But before you do that as the other guy stated make sure that your cables and springs are working. Spring depending on your doors can be in three places but we going to assume you has the most common set up so look over the top of your door (with it closed) you should eb able to see a tube running across there. and somewhere in the in middle a set of spring look at the spring to make sure that you dont see any of the tube showing in the springs. Becare not to touch the spring as they are under a lot of stress.

Have you tired reprogramming the remotes to the opener?

The opener receiver board may have failed, which happens. You can order a new one from Sears or other places on the Internet, and they are fairly easy to replace.

Once replaced, you will need to program the receiver to you remotes again.

It sounds like the logic board has quit working on the one opener. If you have had lightning or power surges you might remove the logic board and check for loose, burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.

You are going to have to find where you are losing power. The most likely place is the logic board especially if you have had any electrical storms or power surges. Remove the board and check for loose or missing traces on the printed circuit.

Craftsman Garage Opener intermittently not closing

A couple things to check and do. If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit if necessary.

If the main light isn't flashing it may just be a simple adjustment. Locate the 'down force' adjustment on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Increase this about 1/4 turn and try.

For the light you should unplug the unit and then using a small screwdriver pull out on the center contact in the light socket.

I would pull the logic board and check for loose or missing connections/traces on the printed circuit board. You can also foll the 110v line and make sure it has not worked loose.

Remotes quit working on Craftsman 53975 garage

It sounds like you have a logic board problem. If your remotes work at all it is not a programming problem. You could pull the logic board and check for loose connections especially around the small transformer. 18 years for an opener is very lucky. Their average life is about 1/2 that.

Make a slight adjustment to the Upward force on the side of the machine. Turn the screw a 1/4 turn each time and test, see if that helps. Also, make sure there are no obstructions or friction when the door opens and closes. Try it manually first.

Replace the logic board. I have seen this problem in the field. More often than not it's due to power surge or lightning strike.
